Hi,

I've just bought a 0.5 dermaroller I've never used one before and am unsure what I can use afterwards.....

Am I right......

Sterilise roller
Wipe face with antibacterial wipe or alcohol wipe?
use roller
sterilise roller
wait to use product maybe an hour?

Can I use argan oil after as it has high concentration of vit e and is natural or will it clog pores?

I have 20% vit c serum but read somewhere that using this could cause skin necrosis.....is that actually true I guess if it improves penetration up to 90% i[code]t could cause more harm than good?

Alternatively I could buy one of those serums sold with rollers or any suggestion..

I tried the dermaroller and next day was very impressed my face still looked a bit red I applied the vit c the following morning and my face stung and went bright red not sure if thats a good sign but my skin did look better as I'm only using a 0.5 I hope using the vit c so soon after is okay? I did have spots of blood and was quite vigorous I may just try the argan oil next time and leave the vit c for a couple days later I'm scared by images of skin necrosis!

Um, I think you may need to do more homework! Very Happy

Please read this excerpt from Dr Setterfield's Concise Guide to Dermal Needling (first edition):

"Skin prep. home: (we prep for 4 weeks before needling)
Ensure product composition is matched to the skin condition in question.

1. Supplements [ enteric coated omega 3, glucosamine and multi vitamins.
2. Cleaners and toners
3. Topical Vit A [ Best result, but more side effects with higher doses]
4. Topical Vitamin C
5. Topical antioxidants
6. Topical Copper peptides[ CuGHK].
7. Topical growth factors.
8. Sunscreen

Post treatment: Inflammatory and Lag Phase: The Goal is to work with , not against the forces of nature.

Days 1-5
Nutritional Supplements:
Omega 3
Vitamins A + E
Colostrum
Vitamin C
Calcium

Topical Anti Ox:
ALA
Omega 3
Glutathione
Resveratrol

Introduces Lymph drainage here

Days 5-14 Fibroplastic phase / Wound healing

Nutritional Supplementation= same + Minerals, Iron, Zinc, Copper, Calcium

Topical:
ALA
Vitamines A,C,E
Omega 3
Glutathione
Resveratrol
Colostrum
Copper peptides.

Introduces Lymph drainage here as well^^

Maturative Phase : 14-28 days- 2years- Wound healing
Nutritional supplements: Same as above

Topical:
Antioxidants [ not specific]
ALA
Vitamins A,C,E
Glutathione
Resveratrol
colostrum
Copper peptides
Sunscreen
And introduces Ionotophoresis and Ultrasound here."

Something like HA serum or ACE oil (with oil soluble forms of A and C, not acidic) or Infadolan A&D ointment (according to whoever's protocol you follow) would be better than an acid C serum immediately post-roll.

You have a 15 min window to get actives into the channels created by the needles.

This is why I don't read the dermarolling thread anymore. There is so much info available (here, books, etc.) and no one bothers to read it before they go and poke tons of needles in their face. Confused Sad I also think that is why many people don't get the great results that they could, or later complain a year later that their skin looks worse. And why I think rollers will eventually get banned in the US.

For those that are just starting out, you need to FIRST understand HOW needling works:

If you don't want to read the free articles above, then purchase a book and read that:

Dermaroller can sterilized by soaking it in a denture tablet solution for 30 min. Then rinse the roller under hot water and let it dry. I usually blow dry it before using.

And my protocol for using 1 mm dermastamp is the following:

1) Wash the face with mild soap.
2) Wipe the face and hands with alcohol.
3) Apply either EMLA or Lidocaine (anaesthetic) on just the face, cover the face with a saran wrap. Wait for 45 minutes.
4) Remove EMLA with a wet cotton disc, wipe the face with alcohol one more time.
5) Stamp the face. Wash the stamp occasionally with sterile normal saline.
6) After stamping is done, I wash my hands with soap, and the face with tepid water and wipe the face with a clean paper towel or blow dry it.
7) Apply a GHK mask from owndoc. One may also use a homemade (without preservatives) HA serum.

Then I repeat the same protocol with my neck.

Personally, I do not recommend Dr Setterfield's book as I find that the protocol is not very well explained. Second, there are no specific recommendations for products that can be safely used post-roll. He just says that active ingredients must be used after a cosmetic roll, but in what percentages and form? And where one can find a product with all the actives and without preservatives, emulsifiers, emollients and all the parabens that he lists?
