i have gotten absolutely overwhelmed looking through this section! you guys know your business, and i'm no where ready to create some of your work intensive potions!

thought i'd start small... i've been putting thick nivea on my forehead and around my eyes before bed since i was a teenager. just love that thick, rich moisture. but i know its doing diddly for my rapid aging. do you think i could mix in some vit c powder or oil (IS there vit c oil?) into my nivea to pump up its benefit?

any and all responses greatly appreciated by this nervous newbie!

I am not aware of any Vit C oils. Maybe someone else can answer that question.
What is highly recommended is the use of a 15% Vit. C, E + Ferulic Acid serum used at night before the application of a night cream/lotion. Let the serum absorb for 15-20 min before using the cream/lotion.
There are many formulations that are quick and easy to make using formulation quality ingredients. The Vit C powder used is not the regular type, such as from Trader Joe's, but should be ordered from a recommended supply company. There are many recipes in the DYI section. My personal favorite is this one developed by Kassy but there are many listed here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=11902

15% C,E + FA with HA (New 6/23/09)

1 tsp L-Ascorbic Acid
3 tsp Distilled H2O
1 tsp SKB
1 tsp Glycerin
1/4 tsp Ferulic Acid
1/4 tsp vodka
1/8 tsp Vitamin E or Rosehip Oil
1/2 tsp Hyaluronic Acid Serum (NCN has a really nice 2oz serum, that is compatible with this recipe, and is also great for an LED serum)

Use 2 little glasses.

Phase 1 glass (water)

Put L-AA in glass, add water, stir frequently and let it fully dissolve. Depending where you buy it, that can take up to an hour.. *Lotioncrafters dissolves quickly I hear*.. (If, and only if, after 60 minutes it's still gritty, you can sit the glass in a warm water bath for a minute, and stir, stir, stir.

Phase 2 glass (oil/emulsifying)

While you are waiting for the L-AA to dissolve, you can proceed with the rest like so. Put the FA in the 2nd glass, pour the vodka in and stir, now add the SKB. Mix this together, and put it in the microwave for 6ish seconds. When you take it out it should be whitish and serumy.. Give it a stir, add the oil and stir + add the glycerin and stir..

Phase 3 (putting it all together)

When the L-AA has fully dissolved, add the contents of both glasses together, stir well, and add the HA in now and stir well..

You should have an opaque off white serum when you are finished, with a consistency similar to a syrup (minus the stickiness Laughing ) If you use Rosehip Oil, you will start off with a bit darker color (great oil though!)

*For anyone that is using an HA powder, you will 1st have to make it into a liquid, or it will just ball up.. Embarassed *

*Please don't be tempted to add more L-AA.. It will only wind up in your toilet bowl.. Embarassed Our skin can only absorb so much* Besides, it will give you a load of grief trying to dissolve it.

There is a vit C oil: http://www.lotioncrafter.com/tetrahexyldecyl-ascorbate-BV-OSC.html
This should mix well with Nivea.

I've used it but found it was not as effective for me as L-AA. L-AA is best used in a base that has a lot of water (like a HA serum) or in a mix like milbader recommended. Nivea will be too thick to mix well with L-AA.
