Hi there,

I'm new to the EDS forum and this is my first post, although I've been a reader of the forum for quite a while. You guys certainly know your stuff!

After researching anti-ageing skin care, I decided to buy some Philosophy retinoid pads. I've been using them all over my face for about a week, including the under-eye area, but not on the top eyelid.

Since then, I've noticed that I seem to have developed 'grooves' at the bottom of the eye socket bone and the skin looks a little crepey. It wasn't crepey before! To help explain further, it's where the thin skin underneath the eye meets the thick skin of the cheek. On top of the crepeyness, it looks like I have mild malar bags. It's as though the skin underneath the eye has now become thinner and the fat pockets at the top of my cheeks are now ultra-visible. But when I feel the malar bag bumps, it feels like there's something under the skin. It's also worse on the right hand side, which coincidentally was the side which became the most red from the pads.

For the moment I've taken the following steps to deal with this, gathered from this forum and plastic surgery websites:

1) I've stopped using the product.
2) I'm drinking more water to combat any fluid retention.
3) I'm doing my own massage underneath the eye to help shift any lymphatic build-up. (Any advice on this is very welcome!).
4) I'm taking antihistamines.
5) I'm sleeping more and using more pillows.

I don't know if this is right. I mean, I'm not sure how pillows or antihistamines will shift a fat deposit! But that's what plastic surgery websites recommend for home remedies for malar bags.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there anything else I can do? Will it be permanent? Can I apply anything to help it?

Thank you very much. Smile
