I love the idea of Retin-A. I want to use Retin-A a few times a week for the anti-aging AND acne helping effects. I have never been able to use it more than a 5-8 times a month because my skin gets red and ugly peels. I break out in horrible cystic acne lesions. So I take a break and start again later. I have always been impressed with people that move up in strengths because I have been using .025% for years.
Last night I found out why and it has totally blown my mind.
I am reading Acne RX from Dr James Fulton and there is a chapter about acne causing ingredients. The one he talks about the most is Isopropyl Myristate and how it is in Retin-A. I checked, and it is, one of the top ingredients! This explains it!! And it explains why I have been using and loving NeoCutis Nouvelle .6% Retinol. |

"......Curiously, the cream base of Retin A was felt to be comedogenic in Fulton's analysis.
In subsequent years it has been determined that isopropyl myristate is less comedogenic than originally thought. It does remain in Retin A cream, but was never in the gel formulations. (Creams are thicker and require thickening agents, gels do not)......"

My DS uses Retin-A gel and has good results.
My other suggestion is to start with a milder RX such as Differin. |

I am 60 with super-sensitive skin and mild rosacea. The only Retin A I have been able to use successfully is Atralin which is a gel though a bit thicker in consistency than the micro. It comes in a tube not a pump.
Prior to this I used the cream in the late 80's and the microgel in a pump a few years ago. There is something about the Atralin that does not cause me itchy, red, peeling, breakout issues the way the other two did. It is the same strength, .05 %, as the microgel I had, and I use the same amount ( pea-sized to maybe 1.5 pea- size) with the same frequency ( about 3 times a week.) |

| Sounds like you are allergic or sensitive to one of the fillers and not the actives. |
