Is it possible to make a solid cleansing balm without the use of coconut oil? Can I make fluid oils solid somehow? Thanks. |

Melt *quite* a bit of emulsifiers into it?
That seems way too obvious, so I'm assuming you meant something else and I don't understand you. |

What did you mean, sorry?
I want to solidify oils that are liquid at their pure state. Add some ingredient that can give them a thick, balmy texture. |

Shea butter and/or beeswax can solidify. This may give you some ideas.

Thank you. Shea butter unfortunately breaks me out like no other, I hope beeswax won't. |

There's a product called cera bellina that will work to make liquid oils thicken to a balm-like consistency. I've tried it and know it works. You'll have to play around with it to get the right consistency though. It's available at Lotioncrafters and they are having a sale right now. |

That looks nice, thank you. I'm in Europe, so I'll have to see if I can find something similar from a European website. :-/ |

Hi, interesting to see someone asking something I had been pondering about for some time. I've used wichever oil I was trying mixed with beeswax and it certainly gives a thicker consistency and you can play around if you want it more or less consistent.
But, what I did find because of loving all asian cuisine is that in Japan they use a powder, "katameru tenpuru" all natural, to "harden" used oil to be able to dispose of it in a friendly environmental way instead of pouring the oil down the drains...
I'm still trying to buy the stuff locally, but having a bit of trouble as where I live there is no local japanese supermarket -there is chinese, south american, indian...
I live in Europe too. I'm just copying and pasting one page where the name of the powder appears you can search it yourself afterwards. It makes the oil solidify but it will melt again with heat, body heat??... Veeery interesting for whoever as us is interested in DIY lip balm, solid creams, etc... with no beeswax, or as you yourself have problems with shea butter. I've never tried this myself but thought it was worth sharing.

Another link related to cooking again though:

Has anyone used this in DIY cosmetics with oils...?? I think it would work really well and looking forward to finding it where I live! |

That is very cool. Please let me know if you find it somewhere.
Gah, the Japanese are always so smart and innovative. |
