Does anyone ever experience hair or a pain in their scalp when wearing their hair up in a barrette clip or elastic for too long? When I move my hair a certain way sometimes the pain is unbearable and other times it's very relaxing. What makes this happen and how do you get rid of it? |

Ummm, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say quit using the offending barrette or elastic! |

I have had the exact same problem, and so has my sister.
EthelM is 100% correct....you have to stop using whatever you are using to pull your hair back OR try to find a different angle that pulls less on your hair/scalp. |

I would but I unfortunately have to wear my hair up for work! It's not a certain one either. It seems like I can't put anything in my hair without it bothering me. My hair is thinner so if I don't wear it up tightly it will fall out. Really wish I could wear my hair down more often. Oh well I guess I'll just have to live with it! |

Try using a headband and then tying the rest of the hair up, more loosely perhaps. I have heard you can start balding if you wear hairstyles that pull a lot. |

Pulling your hair back tightly in a pony tail is a sure way to thin your hair. I found this site that describes this. I knew this German lady who always put her hair in a tight bun. She had very thinned hair. http://www.americanhairloss.org/types_of_hair_loss/hair_shaft_defects.asp
Traction alopecia and trichotillomania . In terms of the mechanical action that causes hair loss, traction alopecia and trichotillomania are exactly the same. The hair is plucked out of the skin leaving clear bald patches or diffuse, thin hair. With traction alopecia the cause may involve things like tight hat bands, pulling the hair into a tight pony tail, cornrow hair styles, and anything else that pulls on the roots of the hair. If traction alopecia continues for a long time and the same hair is repeatedly pulled out then the hair follicles in the skin can become so damaged that they stop growing hair permanently. |

I would try the hair clips at Franceluxe.com
The Cliq Claq clips can hold all my hair if I get the bigger size.
But those triangle clips are $7 for one.
Also they have elastics with a grip woven in- not like the drugstore ones and it is the only elastic that does not pull or slip out of my hair.
My hair thesedays is fine and slippery due to losing at least 50% of its thickness a couple years ago |
