| In your opinion, are drugstore products generally (not always) inferior? |

| My derm and esthetician just told me recently that (per FDA) any products that are sold over the counter, such as in drugstores, department stores, etc. cannot contain any ingredients that penetrate the skin to the extent that professional products can (those sold in a medical office). Is that a marketing tool or is it true? That I do not know. But I will say that I have never had products found over the counter that work as well. |

| Usually inferior yes but not always. CeravePM and some of the Olay line come to mind as proven. |

It depends on what you are looking for...
I see no need to spend a lot of money on some items. For example; cleanser.
There is a post on drugstore favorites. |

I agree on the cleanser and Cerave, have not used the Olay products much but have heard postive reviews.
I use Purpose cleanser and the Cerave night cream and have for years, both which are also recommended by my dermatologist.
Forgot about those! I was thinking more along the lines of the serums I use.
Again, not sure if I believed it but I was certainly taken aback when she said it. I also order stuff from Sephora and Amazon that I am more than happy with.
Dr. H line you can buy at Whole Foods and Decleor I can get at Sephora and I think they are great.

I think it depends on what your skin needs. If your skin is a healthy oily, combo, normal or dry, many drugstore brands will satisfy your skin's needs.
However, I think that if you are specifically looking for a solution to a problem, like severe dehydration, severe dryness, redness that won't go away, chronic irritation, or anti-ageing concerns, more expensive brands are better IMO.
For the longest time, I used uber expensive brands (Valmont, La Prairie), but my skin got enough of it and started reacting to it. Then I switched to pharmacy brands (Avene, Bioderma) and those worked for my skin for a few years. Then, they were not enough anymore and I had to switch again, this time to La Mer, which is currently working well.
So, in conclusion, I think it depends on your skin condition. |

Not saying high end are a ton better but I do think you get what u pay most, but not all, of the time.
I do agree that professional lines are even better. |

No,
the drugstore I shop at sells Neostrata that is considered a professional line.
They also sell Dr. Haushka and many of the "professional" lines.
Also, some of the same companies make the low and high end products. |

The same is true for cosmetics, i.e. Lancome and L'Oreal. I figure the cost difference has more to do with the quality of filler ingredients used and perhaps the amount of an active ingredient. The technology and chemistry of the high end brands of skincare and makeup always "filter down" to the low end brands. |
