I have keratosis pilaris on my face, neck, arms and legs. Oddly the worst place I have them is my face....but it's not so bad on my neck. I don't understand this. Also what is odd is moisturizing does nothing for the bumps at all, I have used moisturizers for 3 years trying various products. I have tried the lactic acid lotions too. In fact, I get negative effects when I use body lotions (including the lactic acid lotions touted for helping KP). The lotions actually make my KP WORSE and gives me more bumps and seems to make my skin upset and pink so I have to immediately stop using after one time because I cannot stand the slight burning/itching sensations. I cannot use lotion on my body for this odd reason. I thought it was an allergy the first time it happened but it has happened with any lotion I have tried. Other parts of the body where KP is not present, don't get angry or affected this way. I used to exfoliate my face but found it only temporarily made the bumps look smaller and then they usually come out 12 hours later same as always.
I feel it's very strange that I can't use moisturizer. I also have been tested for allergies and everything under the sun with no abnormalities. Does anyone have recommendations for a cream I could try? Or something for the KP on my face? I have not tried Retin A as I am nervous about it from the varying reviews/stories I have read. Should I give it a go? I have very sensitive skin. I thought I could start off with ROC's wrinkle cream which has some form of vitamin a in it to see how that goes first, is that a good product and a good idea?
Do I have to be treating the KP on my entire body to get rid of the KP on my face and neck?
I currently use olay age defying anti wrinkle cream and nivea coq10 for my face (they don't seem to do anything for my face at all though, but at least don't cause me issues) and do yogurt masks (which helps the bumps to go down a bit though I don't understand why). |

Have you tried any of the DERMAdoctor
KP line? They have quite a few products for body and face, such as the Double Duty kit.
I have not tried them since I do not have it, but do know a few people that have with good results. Sephora carries the whole line and you might can get a few samples to try first.
Hope you find something that works and good luck! |

Thanks AnnieR for your reply. I haven't tried dermadoctor because I've had no effect or trouble with using AHA/BHA on my face. All these KP lotions like this line have glycolic acid or lactic acid in it which might help the bumps a little temporarily but my skin on my face doesn't seem to enjoy these acids and causes premature wrinkling I don't know why. I always thought acids were FOR wrinkles.
Acutally, to be honest, sometimes I am not sure if I have KP on my face or if it's clogged pores, tiny pimples that haven't budged in 3 years, but can that even be possible to have clogged pores and pimples outbreak that is still here on my face for so many years?
My tiny bumps all over face closely resembles these photos on this blog: http://votavitamea.com/tag/ocm/
In the March 24: Beginning to Heal photo. And the February 24 comparison photo is how my skin looks. |

Pokerlady, have you tried taking the supplement rutin 500mg by mouth twice a day?
I had KP on my arms and legs and took the supp for about 3 months several years ago. The KP never returned.
I have no idea why or how a bioflavinoid supplement can work on KP but others have observed this too, and I heard about it online from another (former) KP sufferer.
Discuss it with your doctor of course if you take medication or are under a doctor's care for any medical conditions. And google "rutin" to check if it may give you any problems. It never did cause any problems for me. Good luck! |

Fawnie-
Interesting on the Rutin. I have been taking it daily for a month or so to strengthen capillaries and for circulation. No changes yet, but too soon to tell. I bought it at Amazon. It would be great if it worked for KP too. I have a couple on my upper arm but nothing significant so I will see. |

Fawnie, I ordered a powdered form of it since I have trouble swallowing pills. I will let you know how it goes, thank you for your help!
AnnieR please keep us updated about how the rutin does for your KP. You are ahead of me as I will be starting this coming week. |
