Hi
i used Glycolic acid 50% roughly 6 months ago and my skin had a very bad reaction to it and wiped some layers of the epidermis off instantly.
I have heard of certain things increase the acids penetration eg retin A. The weeks before this incident i was supplementing with 1000mg of vitamin C and suspect this was the reason why my skin had a very bad reaction to it. As vitamin C is a natrual exfoliant.
it hasnt fully healed and obviously does not look like the original skin i had prior to this. There is some hypopigmentation mixed with red areas over the skin almost blotchy. The region treated was about roughly the size of a palm. so it is a large area. Ive been house bound for the past 6 months waiting for the skin to heal up.
I was wondering if there is anything i can do for the hypopigmentation areas to speed repigmentation apart from sun exposure? There are also red areas in between, is this pigmenaion returning or skin that hasnt healed over yet? |

Hydrocortisone cream will help you to recover. 0.5% is sold at Walmart without prescription. Or you can buy a 1% from askderm.com
Also, Medical repair cream from Epionce is specifically designed for after-peel care. |

The vitamin C had nothing to do with any reaction you had.Oral vitamin C and topical vitamin C are very different animals. Hopefully someone reading this will learn from your mistake. You need to do your homework before jumping into a 50% glycolic acid peel. |

I have read that Seabuckthorn oil is good for burns and scars. I use it on my skin for wrinkles, and love it for moisture, mixed with rose hip oil of argan oil. Possibly read up on it and the benefits, might be helpful. You can get it from a company in Peachland BC, one ounce is about 16 bucks.. worth every penny in my opinion. Good luck. |

the only thing that is making it heal is vaseline. ive tried nearly everything. Although my skin barrier has still not healed even though its been nearly 6 months, however ive only started applying vaseline 2 weeks ago.
my skin is super super dry too. when i steam the area with a towel, it looks as if it is sucking in the water!
right now i need something that would repair/thicken the skin barrier/stratum corneum.
im going to give biofine a try.
i would use hydrocortisone but my skin is already super thin and im assuming it would aggravate my situation further.
im 100% sure internal vitamin c made me extremeley reactant to the acid. i applied the acid and literally my skin melted away right before my eyes. |

I wouldn't steam the skin if it's damaged like that. And that can cause more dryness. I burnt my arm really badly last June and I put virgin coconut oil on it and it helped for the most part.
It has a scar but I suppose it could be worse as it was second degree and so painful. I also used lavender to treat the burn but I wouldn't suggest it for your skin. Maybe aloe but the pure stuff. |

best thing to do is moisturize then?
the thing is the barrier almost heals up and then starts to break/tear up again. i really dont know why. |

its definetley vitamin c in the l ascorbic acid form and another supplement. It is a natrual exfoliant and when you dose at a certain level you will achieve skin exfoliation in a subtle manner. I think my skin was already thin due to me using viatmin c for months and i had applied too much or it was too high a strength for my skin.
id be super careful for those using retin A with chemical peels too. |

It sounds like you overdid it with the treatments. Both are acidic and now you have to give it a chance to heal. Just try one treatment at a time.
My burn took several months to fade.
If the skin is cracking and underneath it's still not healed then it sounds like the surface is dry and when you move your face it breaks the scabs.
Try the coconut oil on a small area. I use the Wilderness Family brand and I have to say it's really good quality stuff. |

there were no scabs, all the skin peeled off instanlty as soon as the acid was applied.
i think it looks like its begining to heal. Ive been applying avene cicalfate cream the past two days. |
