SPF and UVA protection are tested at a global standard of 2mg/cm˛.
One would assume that sunscreen sticks are designed to supply the required 2mg/cm˛, but unfortunately it’s not the case.
A group of researchers studied the amount of sunscreen applied when using a stick or balm. They found that the median amount applied was only half of the requirement 11. 3 of the 28 participants applied close to the required amount, with 1 participant applying a whopping 2.5mg/cm˛.
Based on this, if you want the amount of photoprotection labelled you’ll have to apply the sunscreen twice. |

Good reminder!
Anyone suggest nice lipbalms with physical filters for sun protection? |

Cotz has a nice one.

You can buy it quite a few places.
It says "lightly tinted", but its just skin color (light tan color). I think that's so it doesn't look white on your lips. It just blends in and looks like nothing on. It's fairly moisturizing which surprised me, since zinc can be drying. |

I also recommend the Cotz lip balm. I almost always experience irritation with SPF lip balms including the ones with physical filters only. The Cotz one is not irritating at all. I got a full size of this lip balm for free and was hesitant to use it because of the tint but it does not look tinted when applied. |
