Are there any chemical filters which act like physical, mineral screens, like zinc oxide, and don't absorb? My understanding is that "chemical" filters absorb into the skin, while physical filters, like ZO and TiO, form a layer on top of the skin.

I am hoping to find something with high PPD, or which provides protection in the 360-400 nm range, but which doesn't absorb into the skin.

Tinosorb M is mildly absorbed by the skin and acts as both a physical and chemical sunscreen. Usually very high PPD and said to be safer than many other chemical sunscreens.

Thank you Pandax12. I guess that means that there isn't a chemical filter which doesn't engage in heat absorbtion?

Am I wrong to worry about heat radiation damage to cell and skin structures due to chemical filters? If anyone could post some studies about this, I would appreciate it.

Chemical filters have to be re-applied every 2 hours because in 2 hours the filters get deeper into the skin and scatter light within the skin. So not only they do not protect the skin from UVA rays but they even make the skin more susceptible to damage.

Physical sunscreen do not get absorbed into the skin, and hence do not pose this problem.
