I like many of you am trying to remove years of sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and remove a tan. We know most commercial lactic acid products are not low enough in pH to provide the exfoliation necessary for our purposes, and the few that are, are outrageously priced. So some lactic acid put into a base lotion or cream would naturally be the most attractive option. And I mean putting it into a pre-made store bought lotion like Jergens, or Eucerin. But around the forum, it seems like this isn't really that simple. Problems mentioned include the pH of the acid becoming altered and/or neutralized by the lotion making it useless, certain ingredients being "incompatible" with lactic acid, thickeners and fillers in the lotion that effect the penetration of lactic acid, solubility, buffers, occlusive agents, and how the lactic acid effects the base lotion itself. Does a do it yourself lactic acid lotion really work when putting lactic acid into a pre-made store bought lotion?

Looks nice but that's multiple ingredients I don't have. Have you ever mixed lactic acid into a store bought lotion?

The few times I have tried this, the low ph turned the lotion into water!

I've been told that lotions thickened with glyceryl stearate & peg 100 stearate are acid resistant. Plus there's sclerotium gum and the like.
