| I believe I have white sun spots on my face. Is this the same as hypopigmentation? I also have freckles surrounding these areas so bleaching around the lightened area won't work for me. Is there anyway to get the pigment back? I wonder if ginger would work? Any ideas? |

| I don't think this is a sun spot. A very common reason for these white spots is a fungal infection, tinea versicolor, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinea_versicolor. You can check with your derm to be certain, or try shampoo with selenium. Google some links to see what this looks like. If this is the reason, it will take some time for the skin to return to natural colour. |

If you don't think it's a sun spot...Is hypopigmentation the same thing? I've tried to cover it with make up and/or self tanner and neither works on the white areas on my face...it's quite frustrating as I don't know how to treat it. |

Mea culpa, did a bit of googling and there are white sun spots, I apologize about misinforming you...
I do not know what caused your hypo-pigmentation, I only know that a common cause for them is tinea, my friend had it (it naturally lives in the skin, only sometimes it gets activated and can cause issues), they appeared during the holiday and her derm diagnosed it and told her it is quite common, that is why I immediately thought of them.
I imagine treating hypo pigmentation depends on the cause, so perhaps the best way forward for you is to diagnose what it is before trying to find a solution, treatment is quite different depending on the cause. |

I've actually set up an appt to see a dermatologist however, the appt. isn't for another 6 months. So, I'd like to try some things in the meantime. These areas look strange and I've tried to cover them with make up and put blush or bronzer to try and blend it in with my freckles and nothing seems to cover it, the white patches are still there and look so obvious! It seems like I've definitely accummulated these things from the sun somehow. I read somewhere that rubbing ginger on these areas could possibly bring the melanin back. Maybe I will give this a try and see what happens. |
