Hi!
I have had acne all my teenage years, and now at an age of 22, i only get blemishes once in a while. However, my cheeks are red (all the time! they are never in a "normal" state) but the sides of my face and my forehead is completely normal.
I do have quite large pores at my checks where I used to have a lot of acne, so I figured perhaps the reason of the redness, is because of skin damage from acne?
I have never been good at treating my skin, but I have made the choice to finally do something about it. I am gonna go to Harrods and purchase a cleanser, moisturizer and an exfoliating mask. Is there anything specific I can do / I should purchase, to counter the redness of my cheeks? I have had no succes helping it with regular moisturizers etc....
Please share your experience...
Thanks in advance!

Is it broken caps or a flush? It might be prudent to have derm take a look. If it is Rosacea (flush), than a prescription cream such as Soolantra applied might be helpful. If it is broken caps, then an IPL could help there.
I have both so I do both! |

If you go to Harrods be warned you will spend lots of money unnecessarily. You simply need stuff that will soothe your skin. So a basic cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen are the musts. Not so sure about exfoliating masks - as that may irritate your skin further. You could get that stuff at boots for a fraction of the price you will pay at Harrods.
Boots have their own Witchazel products which are quite good for acne sufferers.

I have red cheeks as well. I switch back and forth between coconut oil and a natural face oil serum and both seem to be helping. The current face oil serum I use is by Ora's Amazing Herbal and I have had the best results with it. The exfoliating may make the redness worse. |

May I just say that pink cheeks were considered an absolute hallmark of youthful beauty for many centuries. Every description of a lovely maiden (European fairy tales) involved white skin and pink cheeks. Now that I'm 50 and sallow I so much wish I had naturally more colour. While your cheeks may need some soothing, consider viewing yourself differently, too: the charming milkmaid-type beauty that advertising with stick-thin pale models seems to have forgotten about but is still appreciated by real people! |

If it is rosacea… try rose hip oil..it is cheap and works .. takes a week or so..
I saw a derm on a talk show suggest this. I bought some for about six bucks for my husband. it makes his face more red when he applies it in the morning ..then it goes away. I'd also use sunscreen afterwards.
the doctor also suggested taking a probiotic because some forms of rosacea are caused by bacteria. |

And it is also caused by yeast, so a candida or yeast cleansing protocol can help as well.

Using the topical RX Soolantra and IPL's have been the biggest help overall. |

If it is rosacea , then no!!!!
Every derm I have ever been to in 30 years for redness says to not use Retin-A.
It can cause broken caps and thinning of the skin that exacerbates it. That was the beginning of where mine started. |

A repairing cream, whatever that is? Do you mean barrier repair? It would be helpful in your posts Xiyue, if you could elaborate or actually contribute since the forum is designed to share helpful info. So please take the time to do so! Thanks!
Simone, you need soothing creams with probitoics, that would be more helpful in your case. Many out there are designed with redness in mind. Paula's Choice has some that are good. All the way up to the IS Clincal and Phyto C line of soothing serums, depending on price that you want to spend.
Be VERY careful with exfoliation which can actually aggravate it. |

@SophiaFaith1983 and CassieLyons:
There are day and night versions of the oil. Which are you using? |

Again not understanding what you are asking. If you mean does it take time to work, yes it does. Or DOES it work, yes, for some people it works great.
But no, retin A is not good for people with tendencies toward rosacea and broken caps. That is why the dermatologists doe not recommend it for some people. |

I've had very red cheeks my whole life- pretty much everything I tried has helped just a little.
Neostrata has some soothing anti-redness products.
Also tried Avene.
I just bought Eucerin after sun cream for sun allergy and it is a gel and fragrance free- it did not make my skin worse...but just started using it this week. |

I extremely recommend you to at least give it a go with hydrocortisone if you have any facial redness. I used it on my neck and the redness dissapearred overnight. I then tried on that area that it is constantly red and SURPRISE its gone, i have never seen my skin this even in ageeeees! |

But they do not recommend long term use of any cortisone/steroid topically due to thinning of the skin, which just exacerbates redness.
I have a prescription one but was advised to use it VERY sparingly by my dermatologist.
Anything labeled as an anti-redness cream will help at least as they are formulated to calm and soothe. Will they remove it totally? Depends on the degree. |

What? No. You must mean soothing. Most smoothing creams have irritants. |

What were the products that you bought? (to see the ingredients)
But I think a moisturiser, cleanser and exfoliator is a good start.
My advice would be to try them out gently - exfoliate no more than once every few days - and then if the problem persists go see a dermatologist. |
