hi there,
anyone have good tips on preventing enlarged pores and milia seeds?? I follow a cleanse, tone and moisturising regime but it seems that having enlarged pores are still part of the aging process and I am only in my late 20's....
I wonder what went wrong..... I am currently using lancome's primordiale optimum (day cream)and its supposed to reduce the first signs of aging. Been told that I shouldn't be using too rich a product as they actually enlarge pores for someone like me, who used to have combination skin.
Thanks! |

In that cleanse tone moisturise routine you also need an exfoliation step. I highly recommend the Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream (which is more like a pore purifier - do a search if you're interested and read through the results that people have got with it) for both gentle exfoliation and cleaning out the pores (thereby making them smaller). My only worry would be that if you are prone to millia then the Dr H CC might be too moisturising for you. Have you tried any products with glycolic acid at all or deep cleansing mud masks? |

I cant recommend Dr Hauscka cleansing cream enough. I have only been using it a week and the improvement is amazing. Already the pores on my cheeks are pretty invisible and chin and forehead are improving slowly but surely. At 40 my skin is looking better then it did at 20 The best thing about it is it is very gentle and soothing, I have dermatitis and can still use it with no soreness or redness |

Enlarged pores are caused by gunk filling them up and thus giving them the appearance of being enlarged. While there is no way to shrink the size of your pores (you’re born with them!), you *can* help keep them minimized by ensuring that they are free and clear of pore-clogging debris.
I hate to sound like a broken record, or worse yet, like someone who owns stock in the company, but there is a growing cult among EDS members of users who swear by Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Cream to keep pores clean and clear. Or you can try the homemade version of Dr. H CC – perform a search and you should be able to turn up the message thread containing the recipe for the homemade version.

I agree with the cleanser but I also think that a good toner really makes the difference |

Ahhhh Rosebud, I disagree. I have pretty oily skin and would splash on the toner like crazy cause I thought it would help. My dermatologist told me to cut it out - she has changed her view on toner recently and is encouraging her patients not to use it. She said it frequently has the effect of encouraging oil production which undermines the fact that it dissolves it topically.
Eliminating toner wasn't the only change in my skincare regimen, but I sure don't miss it. |

Thank you for all your replies.
I have actually read everything on this forum regarding Dr.H CC and 'the other home version'. I am definitely willing to try it since it is highly recommended by members.
Mabsy> So if I am prone to milia seeds under my eyes, I shouldn't be using Dr.H CC? Is Dr.H CC supposed to be an oily sort of cleanser and how often should I be using it? I am concerned because milia seeds can be caused by oil and dirt or just simply a moisturiser that's too rich for the eyes (that's what I think). Anyway, I think I will not be using the Dr. H CC around my eyes - I wouldn't want to aggravate the milia problem.
Heard you all heard about the use of cleansing oils, like those from Shu Uemura? Its supposed to remove all traces of make up better than facial cleansers do.
I actually do think that my current daily cleanser (which I presume its not soap-free but does it matter that much?) is not working all that well since I have my present facial woes of enlarged pores.
I also believe that if we do not have good clean pores, no matter how good a moisturiser is, it will not do its job of moisturising the skin adequately. So its the cleanse/exfoliate and tone routine which is so much more important. So what do you ladies think? |

missykiehls,
The goal here is to find out which product is clogging your pores. It could be your cleanser, moisturizer, makeup or anything else you are using.
You can definitely try a new cleanser and see if it helps. If not then try a different moisturizer. Also make sure to include exfoliation and masking as your weekly routine.
Good luck! |

The Dr H CC leaves your skin feeling moisturised (or at least that's what it does to my normal skin). I didn't know that you only had millia around your eye area. That should be no problem. |

Hi - no it doesn't remove makeup and sunscreen - you need to use something to remove the makeup first before you use the cleansing cream. |

This is especially true if toners contain alcohol. It dries out the upper dermis, which encourages skin to produce even more oil in order to "defend" / balance itself. It's really a counteractive way to deal with these issues IMO. |

Can anyone compare this product to Epidermx with regards to milia and exfoliation for blackheads, please. I have tried epidermx and it isn't working, so I am tempted to try this product next. Thanks! |

Does anyone have any recommendations for something other than DHCC or epidermx? I have tried both of these products and they have only broken me out more and caused even worse congestion than when I started. TIA! |

I have the same problem and scrubs don't do anything for my congestion. Neither DHCC or Epidermx helped, sometimes made it worse.
Sometimes using a warm washcloth helps. I have read that microfiber cloths work.
The only thing that really works for me (but I hate doing it) is unclogging my pores by squeezing the gunk with my own fingers or using an extraction tool. I'm always shocked at how much white stuff comes out! And I have to do this about once a week. Even after I clean my pores out by squeezing the gunk, my pores get reclogged very easily. My previous facialist said that I have very deep pores that get clogged easily. |

I used to have pores like craters but have solved the problem by using the OCM, switching to oils to moisturise instead of creams and exfoliating weekly with 65% lactic acid. My pores are no longer clogged and appear much diminished in size. |

With regard to the milia, not all bumps around the eyes are milia, some may be syringomas which are overgrowths of sweat glands. Retinoids can help to prevent a lot of these bumps (milia, syringomas) because they improve the turnover of the skin cells. Disorderly turnover of skin cells is one of the factors that may cause these bumps. These would also help large pores due to ageing changes, which are partly due to declining collagen production (the "walls" of the pores becoming saggy). So retinoids are worth considering to address these issues. |

hi hyguee,
i think DHCC is more gentler and not as harsh as epidermx II.
although, i found that epidermx II leaves the skin more smoother (well it is a microdermabrasion cream), whereas with DHCC, when used by itself, it kinda left a greasy film. but when i use it AFTER my cleanser, it didnt. so every night, after using my cleanser, i use DHCC and as someone here recommended, i leave it on for a few minutes like a mini-mask!
