Hi everybody.
Any ideas about how I would go about helping my boyfriend with bad acne? I myself went through it and know the emotional stress it can cause, but I've used products which I know will help him too.
It's a little tricky - I know he is self-conscious about it so I wouldn't want to make him feel like it's a problem for me (because it's not), but I know he would feel a lot better in himself if it went away.
I could recommend to him some products that helped me, but I don't know how to do it without offending him. Any ideas?

 m, tough one... as i see it, there are two ways to go here. firstly the slow and steathly approach, just get him to try one thing at a time, don't overload with too much stuff, remember boys aren't really raised to consider how they look so he's going to be a bit weirded out by it all at first.
or, secondly, you could just go the whole hog and sit him downa and say 'hey, this is totally not a problem for me, but i know it is an issue for you and i can help you out with this given my previous experience', he might want to ask you for help but really doesn't know how...

This is an easy one for me - my boyfriend had bad skin for years and this is what we did:
*Zinc 50mg a day - cut in half once acne clears
*Vitamin A 48,000iu a day, then gradually ween down once acne clears
*Vitamin B Complex
*Magnesium - soak feet in epsom salts a few times a week or put into the bath, the body will absorb what it needs.
Cut down on sugar, alcohol, caffine, junk food etc
Eat veg, salad, nuts, fruit etc
The boyf's skin is really clear now, like me he suffered since he was 12 with acne. Oh and a word of warning if you are going to feed him zinc I suggest you have some yourself as Zinc makes you very horney!!!!!  
As for skincare he just uses a cheap face wash from the supermarket, he does love his face scrub (Neal's yard) and he uses Nivea oil free lotion and tea tree topically if he ever needs it. |

| I think honesty is the best approach. If you know for a fact that he is self-concious about it then you can offer to help him. Next time he says something that is related to his skin then tell him that it makes no difference to you but that you've also had acne before and can suggest some products that will help him if he wants to give them a go. |

It's is amazing to me how emotional acne is. If one of our boyfriends or hubbies had heart disease, it would not be an issue to say "hey, I love you so take this medicine and we will exercise together and get through this"...
But acne, which is also a disease, is so emotionally tied to our self image. There a so many medicines to improve acne (so many more than when I was growing up and suffering from it). I would say, "let's go to the dermatologist together and see if we can improve your skin so it will not be an issue for you and by the wat sweetheart, I love you no matter what!" If the natural products suggested are not effective, I would recommend Retin-A Micro. It can be life changing. Good luck, joani |
