hi,
i would like some advice on waxing please.
i have recently decided to sort my skin out (i now have a strategy for my face!) and i figured i may as well sort out the rest of my body hair too! oh, im a guy btw!
i have herd all these rhumours on body waxing- i was thinking of having my chest done. just how much will it hurt? does it grow back thicker afterwards, and how long will it last?
mny chest isn;t particularly hairy, but i dont like it very much tbh! also, and i know this isn;t a nice thought for everyone, but i thought i may have my bum waxed also- will this hurt more or less than my chest? im not going ------------ star or anything, but my buttocks are a little hairy and i think it looks horrible!
any advice on waxing would be appreciated! i dont think i could face doing it myself (the embarassment of buying a home wax kit from boots would be terrifying!) so i think i will get it done by a pro, although its going to be VERY embarassing!!!!
thanks |

my advice, ask a couple female friends who they go to, you'll find someone good that way. Or tell us where you are and someone can suggest a place.
I limit waxing to my brows. After 5-6 years they've stopped growing in for the most part. It's in no way thicker than before, it's much thinner because of the damage to the hair folicles/roots.
Nothing wrong with the chest or butt, just PLEASE do your back too if it's hairy |

Hey there-
Hairs tend to grow back finer after waxing, and some stop growing altogether. Just make sure you exfoliate well- some people have lots of ingrown hairs after waxing.
Good luck having it done- shouldn't be that embarrassing, they see it all the time! |

Hi, lots of men have all sorts of body parts waxed. It is very common and popular in larger cities. There is even a name for the guy waxing...back, crack and sac
Yes, it does hurt. Take an asprin (or better yet, a valium) before you jump in. As suggested, a gal pal would be a great help.
Good luck, joani |

thanks for the replies!
fortunatly i dont have a hairy back
i will make some descrete inquiries amongst my female friends to see what they suggest.
the asprin/valium is a very good idea, that way i can act all hard and macho when im recieving the treatment!
im from Birmingham or Cornwall, (depending on term dates etc) UK
thanks everyone
PS- joani.sp there is no way i could handle the embarassment of that back, sack and crack thing!!!!! |

It does hurt but the more you wax the less you notive the pain (well in most areas anyway ). I actually used to wax my best friend's back and he was ok with it. It did hurt but the key is to rip the strip off quickly. If you have any close female friends then perhaps you can get them to do a test patch on you (on your chest of course )? |

lol- a good idea but i think i would rather save the embarassment and get it done by a pro. besides, if i got a friend to demonstrate what it was like i may loose motivation to go and have the rest done!
i will let everyone know how it goes, although it wont be for 3 weeks until my exmas finish! |

Back, crack and sac? I’ve never heard it called that before! But I’m reminded of a scene from the classic (!) film, “Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigolo” when Deuce decides to join the ranks of “man-whore” and his pimp takes him for his first grooming session with the waxer.... |

Lots of guys get waxed these days.It does not hurt everybody it depends on your pain threshold and a good waxer should be able to minimise the pain. Why don't you look through yellow pages and ring a few places and ask them if they have done guys before. They cant see you and you will get an idea of what the people are like. If you get some-one who is hesitant in reply they may not have done many guys. Then you might get someone really enthusiastic that obviously has done quite a few. Or go in a couple of salons and see if you like the atmosphere. I think it is great that men are now taking care of themselves. Good luck. Internet search salons in your area as well. |

After you get waxed, don't forget to start exfoliating 2 or 3 days later, and keep doing it...Tend Skin may also be a good idea...or CareKate's homemade version. |

If you have the money you can have it lasered off Your hair has to be dark in order for this treatment to work. Woman and men used to have this done in the salon I worked in. We used to see a lot of men who wanted to rid themselves of hairy backs. The usually number of treatments was four. Here is a good link:

Hi,
I am from Poole. Guapagirl who is studying and not posting much at mo is from Cornwall. She may know some good places in the area. Although if you are in brummy land at moment it probably would make more sense to have it done there. So what are you studying?
Also at your uni do they do beauty therapy courses because if they do, they are always wanting clients for waxing, you may be able to get it done discount. I know how poor students are. My son finished uni last year and owes a fortune on his student loan.Makes me spit that you have to pay for uni. OOps off subject. Sorry. |

Loopylori just beat me to it. I am currently studying Beauty Thearpy at college and the lecturers are a real source of info about the industry in that area. I know my own lecturer still works in a salon waxing mainly male clients and believe me it is so common you have no need to feel embarassed.
The hair will grow back more lightly but a good waxer will explain the hair growth cycle to you as the results can differ but you should have minimal growth for 4-6 weeks.
It can be slightly uncomfortable but the benefits far outweigh the slight and temporary discomfort. Phone local colleges or salons and good luck. |

cool, will def get in done in bham then, i have a placement next yr (im studying 2 be an Optician/Optometrist) so i will need waxing places in cornwall too!
IMO there shouldn;t be student fees, the gov makes loads of Ł from us in tax (higher salary due to higher qualification) in the long term anyway! if they want to save money on education they should scrap all the useless courses which dont lead to better jobs by the end of it (degrees in tourism, surfing etc!)
ok, all you ladies have convinced me its def the way to go! (i may go laser in the future, but unlikely)
i have a horrible feeling when i post saying "had it done, hurt like HELL" all the same ppl who posted here will say "now you know what it feels like, so be dam grateful if your gf/wife etc waxes for you!!!!" |

I am a bit like you in so far as I don't like excess body hair, I think hair that sticks out over the top of a T shirt either back or chest hair is gross!
I tried shaving, and almost cut off a nipple in the shower, so I decided to try and get a wax!
Finding a Salon that would wax my backside was a challenge, lots of salons would do the back and the chest, but nothing below the waist.
After ages doing a web search, I eventually found one in Manchester that would wax my chest, tummy and the cheeks of my backside.
Yes! it did sting a bit, rather like ripping of a plaster, but nothing I couldn't handle, and to be honest the feeling afterwards was well worth it.
It feels very strange to be able to feel the fabric of your shirt against your body, but just a nice feeling!
Last week I bit the bullet and had a men's hollywood, thats all the pubes and ALL the hair from your backside.
That DID STING! and a few AHHHS!
Again, the feeling afterwards is worth it.
There is definately a salon in Birmingham the specialise in men and will do what you want.
Do a google search and you should find it.
My advice, grit your teeth and go for it.
The feeling afterwards is fantastic.
If you want any more info you can PM me and I would be happy to explain anything your want to know. |

It really annoys me that Salons oner here in the UK are so prudish, to me having your crack waxed in no different than having your chest or legs waxed, maybe its just me being too liberal
My boyf would happily go wax if I wanted him to, he's blessed he only has hairy legs!!!!
He thinks his ahem would look bigger if he waxed his pubic area
So guys I think its great that you want to wax why not!!! Shame on the salons that are too prudish. |
