I'm slowly trying to convert to using more natural products on my face and one of my first purchases was Jurlique's Calendula Cream. This stuff is awesome!!! It looks a bit icky (it's fairly thick and is yellow in color) but it's so lovely and soothing on my skin that I couldn't care what it looks like. I've been told that it was initially intended as a spot treatment for acne, dermatitis, sunburn and even nappy rash ( Shock - not that I need to worry about that just yet!) but for all the sensitive ladies (and men!) who have a tendency to break out, this is one of the few creams that I've found to help sooth sensitivity whilst also helping to reduce acne inflamations and scars. As I mentioned, the conisitency of the cream is quite thick but I find if I apply it while my face is still damp from my toner then I only need a small amount and it spreads easily and evenly over my entire face. It soaks into my skin pretty quickly (within a couple of minutes) and leaves my skin feeling moiturised but not oily (plump is probably the best word for it). I pray that they never discontinue this product as it is the best moisturiser I've EVER tried on my crazy-combo-all over the place skin. I use it as a make up base and night cream with no probs (though I'm going to try Jurlique's Herbal Recovery Gel for nighttime use once my credit card recovers from the last EDS spree! Laughing ). I'll post a review on that too one of these days.

I have a Calendula macerated oil, which sounds very similar to this, it cost about £6 from Neal's Yard for a reasonable sized bottle and I love this stuff.
I can used it sparingly on my face, on sunburn, my feet, it's good mixed in with body moisturisers and also with jojoba oil and ylang ylang as an alternative to Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil.
I was looking at the ingredients of the Dr H Day Oil and one of the ingredients is Calendula Extract.

Yeah calendula seems to be in a lot of products, carekate mentioned on one of the reviews of yonka products that it's in them as well (the juvenil I think it was).

This sounds great!!! I have terrible problems with breakouts & sensitivity, and have just recently started using Yonka products which seem to help.

It seems like so many acne treatments are so harsh on the skin so I get all scaly, and it makes me wonder which is worse...acne or scaly red patches? Neutral

Wow Princesita, that's great that you have found a product you LOVE! Laughing Anything you review makes me tempted to try it because it seems our skins are so similar. I know you have tried a lot of the Dermalogica line and I was wondering how this product compares to any of the Dermalogica moisturizers. Right now I am using Skin Smoothing Cream with some Skin Hydrating Booster mixed in. Because of your reviews on it, I bought the Ultracalming Cleanser and I love it. So whatever you find totally fabulous... please let me know! Very Happy

Ali - looks can be deceiving, when the Jurlique lady showed me the calendula cream I thought ewwww I don't wanna put that yellow stuff on my face Laughing it's a different texture to Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream... it's a bit thicker but more pliable and spreads on my skin more easily. I think it feels less greasy/sticky afterwards too (seems to soak into my skin quicker). I'm just thrilled that I can use the one product to help my blemishes and also moisturise my skin! I'm so glad you like the Ultra Calming Cleanser too (I would feel bad if you bought it based on my review and hated it!!), it's still the best cleanser I've found for our skin type!

I adore the Calendula creme! It really is amazing how well it works to heal skin of all types. I too was fearful to apply something so thick and full of plant oils on my oily/combo skin, but, nothing works better to get blemishes and irritations back to normal.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jurlique's expensive range of take-it-or-leave-it products, but, the Calendula is something I always make sure to have around.

For those of you that are fans of Calendula Cream, Neal's Yard do tubes for £4.50.
Here's the ingredients:

Water, Cetystearyl Alcohol, Decyl Oleate, Calendula Tincture, Almond Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Glycerine, Vitamin E, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

It's great for a cheaper alternative Very Happy

I tried the Calendula cream years ago and I was really scared of putting it on my face at the time. This was when I was still into using various dept store brands like Lancome and the idea of using a thick yellow cream on my face really didn't appeal to me. While I can't remember getting any specific results with it I do recall that I had no problems with breakouts at all. Though, it was a bit much as a day moisturiser in our sticky summer climate.

Princesita,
Where did you get the Calendula cream? I looked on EDS and I can't find it anywhere.
Thanks,
Ali

ali - I bought it from a department store over here, as it's made in Australia that's cheaper for me than buying from EDS. You can order online from www.jurlique.com and I think they offer free delivery if you spend enough too Laughing that's always my excuse for spending so much on here! They also sell it on www.amazon.com. I'm not sure which website has better pricing though.

Hello Princesita,
I don't use a toner in the morning. I put vit-C serum onto my skin right after cleansing. I am wondering if the Calendula cream can be absorbed easily when the face is not wet? Also, do you apply sunscreen after the Calendula cream? Would it be too thick or sticky? Confused Or, should I use the Calendula cream as a night cream?
Thanks,

I've had this for a while, it's actually pretty cheap compared to most other overpriced Jurlique products Laughing

I can't say I "love" it, in fact I didn't see anything special about it when used as a facial moisturiser (i tried it on normal skin days, acne days, peeling skin days, acne-scarring days). At most it was a bit "soothing", but I felt it fell under the generic category of thicker moisturisers like, Creme de La Mer and Mario Badescu healing cream. They are all great as a special pampering treatment to seal in the moisture, but prolonged use (more than 2~3 times a week) definitely causes congestion, even if I exfoliate diligently and I do use some BHA/AHA products every now and then, not to mention microderm scrubs.

I have been using this cream on and off but I found that this cream is amazing on my other half. He seems to be getting greater results from it than I do. It is indeed very smoothing and didn't cause any break out.
