I am so upset. Sad

My cat Marmalade has been at the vet for 3 days now, and they can't get his fever under control (it is 105.5...100 is normal for a cat). They figured out that he had an infected molar and removed it on Wednesday, but nothing is bringing his fever down.

They asked me to come in at lunch today to see if I could get him to eat, and he was not even interested in smelling the tuna fish I brought him. But he started purring as soon as he saw me...it was so sad. Sad

He is the best cat I have ever had (and I have had a lot). Any positive thoughts for him are greatly appreciated.

You know what kills me...a ton of people already viewed this thread, and had nothing nice to say.

I think about how much time I have spent trying to help people on this board, and not asking for much at all in return. This just confirmed that I should have spent it with my cat instead.

Silence speaks volumes...thanks for making things so crystal clear for me.

Hi bethany
I will say a little prayer to St Francis for Marmalade. I do understand the part about "the best cat I ever had"! Poor little feller....I hope he perks up soon now. That was so cute that he started purring when he saw you...it really made him feel better after all he'd been through that day!!

Bethany I will certainly remember both you and your cat. It is very difficult when our animals are sick. Crying or Very sad
I came home after a very tough week of work and realized just how comforting having my pets sitting right close to me. I know you are missing your cat and maybe tomorrow his fever will break and you will have some answers.

Bethany,

I just wish your cat speedy recovery. I know how painful it is when the pets we love so much get sick. My hope and payers for you and your cat!

Please, let us know how he is doing.

Oh Beth, you poor thing.. I only just logged in here at 3:00 a.m. and saw this thread just now. Please don't think people don't care, I'm sure it's just because it's a little late for some, and the weekends are always slow anyhow.

You always give so much to this forum, and your there to lend a hand to everybody all the time.. Please know your well loved, well appreciated + well respected by so many..(including me whether you like it or not.. Very Happy )

I'll be putting in a prayer to St. Francis as well.. I just know he'll pull your little Marmalade through this nightmare..

Good thoughts, hugs + Pray 's comin' atcha!

He is so cute! I'm sending positive thoughts to you and Marmalade. My mini dachshund was in the hospital in very serious condition recovering from exploratory surgery one year ago. She is on my lap now. These little creatures are tough. Visit as often as pemitted to keep his spirits up. Hang in there!

I've only just read this bethany (possibly because of the time difference) and am always very saddened whenever anything like this happens. I know what it is to care deeply for animals, and I know how traumatic it can be when we worry about them. So please be assured that you have my sympathy, and that I will be thinking of and praying for Marmalade. I know that lots of other forum members will feel exactly the same. You're not alone.

He looks so full of character in that lovely photo. I hope they find out what's causing his high temperature and that they bring him back to health as soon as possible. I also hope that you'll be able to bring him home with you before long, so he's back where he belongs.

Take care, both you and Marmalade.

I just read this also. I'll be sending positive thought to Marmalade. He's a beautiful cat and I hope he is feeling better soon. I assume they have him on antibiotics but it may just take some time for the infection to go away and for him to feel better. Maybe he won't eat because his mouth is still sore?

Bethany, I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I honestly believe that worrying about your fur baby is one of the worst feelings you can have. Please try to keep your spirits up as it's obvious that Marmalade loves you and I know he wants to fight for you. I'm praying that he will get well soon.

Sorry, I haven't been on since yesterday morning so I just now saw this logging on this morning (I only log on once a day in the am). I am saying a prayer for your cat and you to get you thru this time. I am sure he will be fine. He is so beautiful! Just hang in there.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I know how it feels to worry about a pet's health. I never wanted a pet..let alone a humunga dog...I'm a cat person. Darned if I didn't go into all out panic when he got sick. That's when I realized I'd fallen in love with the big lug..AKA "my buddy with the big soulful eyes".

Marmalade will get better, I think your presence helps a lot. Please let us know.

Thanks all...your support is very much appreciated. My family is pretty much worthless in the support category because they are either not cat people, or too selfish to ask how he is doing. Rolling Eyes

He has been on 2 antibiotics (plus 2 pain meds, fluids, and insulin), and they added a 3rd antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory last night. His fever was down to 103 this morning, though it has tended to drop and then go back up again day after day. They sent off some of the yucky stuff from his tooth abscess to be cultured, and that will provide some insight as to how to treat it. However, with a short week next week, we may not get results for a week and a half. Sad

The good news is that when they had me come in this morning to try and get him to eat, he actually ate a tiny bit (which is better than nothing). But he hasn't eaten again since then.

I have to go back in Sunday morning and try to get him to eat again...we'll see how it goes.

Thanks again for the support.

Ahhh, He's such a cutie-pie!

I just know he'll be on the mend once the meds really kick in... Hopefully when you go back tomorrow, you'll see a big improvment, and he'll be looking to see what "goody" Mommy brought .. Very Happy

Awwww, this is the first I've seen of this thread, but I'm really hoping your Marmalade is pulling through things slowly. I know how dear pets can be and I'm sending you both all my love and support.

Ohhh! I see Beth. You're angry at your family, not at any forum members for not responding to your sick cat.

Sorry about your cat and I hope he gets well soon. How come the hair on his paws is so long?

Hi, Beth.
I sure hope Marmalade is feeling better. The "unknowns" are the worst. And I just hate it when people have the "they're just animals" attitude. I'm lucky to have a family full of animal lovers.

Wanted to give you something to try as far as food goes... I had a kitty with stomach/intestinal cancer Sad a few years ago and he had no appetite at all. And what he did eat, he typically threw back up. What worked for us were baby food meats (try different ones to see which work best) and thinly sliced sandwich turkey and chicken. I know tuna usually gets the kitties going, but mine didn't care for it once he got sick.

SusyQ - sometimes longhaired animals get fuzzy feet. My longish haired dogs look like they're walking around with big fuzzy bedroom slippers when I go too long without trimming their feet!

Thanks for the tip. He can't eat anything that requires chewing since he basically just had jaw surgery and apparently is in a lot of pain. Sad I was able to get him to eat a little canned food with tuna juice on it this morning, but I will pick up some baby food turkey or chicken on my way to the vet tomorrow morning. That will give him some options, and hopefully he will go for one of them. Thanks!

It's funny the things we say and do when we're grief stricken with worry over our littlest loved ones..

If anybody on this forum deserves the the support of it's members, it's Beth... She goes above and beyond to help everybody, in any and every thread. When she doesn't know the answer, she's the 1st (and many times the only) one, that will jump right in and research it. I can only imagine the hurt she felt, when people viewed it and just moved on.. (It's very hurtful, when you've given your all, and makes one feel used, when the folks you think you've grown to know so well, don't respond in kind.)

So lets all have a heart, and send our best wishes to Beth + Marmalade .. wave wave

And yep, longhaired cats tend to have it everywhere ... Very Happy

Thanks Kassy....that pretty much summed up how I felt. I answer a gazillion more questions than I ask here on the forum, and most are for posters that I don't know. And when I asked for positive thoughts and people just clicked on through, it was very disheartening.

But at the end of the day, there is a handful of EDS posters that I can always count on, no matter what the issue. And for that I am very appreciative. Smile

I'm sorry about your kitty cat and send my positive thoughts! Also, I had a very sick cat once w/ intestinal cancer too and all he would eat was the "juice" from the cat food. I found the best thing to try and get him to eat was those "friskies fine cuts" packets. They have lots of the gravy stuff and come in variety packs so if your kitty doesn't love one, you can try another flavor. hope that helps!
