Continuing my never-ending search for a nice smelling and effective body moisturiser. My skin is dry and gets scaly when neglected. Pulled out some previous threads and saw some suggestions to use oil. Remembered i had some Johnson's baby oil stashed somewhere n tried it again last nite. Too oily.... gets on my face inadvertently as well...any products that have worked for u?? Pls share!

I like to use oil as well - not baby oil though but something like Dermalogica's Stress Relief Oil or Dr Hauschka's oils. At the moment I'm using MMU body butter souffles and these are really rich and lovely.

What's MMU? Im in Singapore so some brands are not readily accessible. Do you find that the oils take awhile to be absorbed? Or maybe its just Johnsons... I put it on damp skin last night and it took at abt 15mins before it was fully absorbed. But it did feel soft and smooth after. I hv sensitive skin so being that oily and going to bed with it might give me a breakout on the face. Whats Dr H oils like? Any scent?

I'm just using a cheapie body moisturiser so I can save money for facial skin care Laughing I bought one from the supermarket called St Ives Whipped Silk Intense Body Moisturiser, it's lovely, non greasy and non irritating and very inexpensive (AU$5 for 14 FL Oz).

I like using Calendula oil for my legs, also using the Body Shop Cooling Menthol and a woods of windsor moisturiser.

My favorite body cream is BATH & BODY WORKS Lay It On Thick Shea Butter Body Cream. It smells yummy, and it is so rich and thick. I put it on after showering, before bed, and my skin is super soft and smooth in the morning.

Oh you got me started! I love body cream. Clarins or Lancome for dry skin in the winter. But my fav are Laura Mercier's Lavendar body butter, EA's Green Tea with honey drops, Shiseido's Relaxant body cream or lotion for summer. The lavendar butter might be a bit rich for summer, but the green tea and relaxant are simple divan for summer, they smell so fresh even when you sweat. Using fragrant body cream in summer save you from using perfume and it's on the whole body which is more effective when your are warm. But be careful when you are out in the wild with the mosquitoes, don't use any fragrant stuff when there are mosquitoes!!!!

MMU is an online Canadian company (www.mmucosmetics.com) - I don't think you can buy their products in the shops. Their body butters are very nice but their international shipping is a bit high Sad

The oils do take a while to absorb into the skin but if you put body cream over the oil I find that it makes it feel less oily plus it moisturises more Smile The Dr Hauschka oils do have a fragrance - but that is because of the ingredients used in them. No artificial fragrances.

Also - if your skin is dry and flakey then it's a good idea to gently exfoliate. It'll get rid of the flakes and prime the skin to absorb the moisturiser.

L'Occitane Verbena or Milk for summer. For winter, Nivea in the tin for dry spots and AmLactin for all over. Good drugstore brands - Jergens Skin Firming (has glycolic acid in it) and Aveeno (with oatmeal for anti-itch and long-term moisturizing). Staying away from hot baths and showers helps, too. They are too drying for skin.

Rub a used dryer fabric softener sheet (i.e.: brandname “Bounce”) all over your exposed skin prior to going outdoors to repel mosquitoes.

This is just an ingenious little trick that us Texans use because the mosquitoes down here can be as large as 747s and might be carrying “West Nile Virus,” so we can’t take any chances. After drying your laundry in the clothes dryer, instead of tossing the used dryer sheets, recycle them to use as an outdoor insect repellant!

We now return you to your originally scheduled programming....

I absolutely love the Body Deli's bath products. The smell and texture of their body lotions are to die for. I am trying my best to stay away as they are expensive and very addictive. For Birthday and Xmas I do hint around to my children and husband. Laughing

Great! I’m delighted I was able to help out and I’m glad your daughter wasn’t afraid to try it out, because most people that I’ve told about this trick are very skeptical and think it’s a crazy idea so they never test it themselves to see that it works. I don’t blame your daughter for not wanting to spray her kids with “Off.” There was an investigative report on Dateline or 20/20 a couple years ago that reported on cases were both adults and children had actually died or suffered severe brain damage as a result of “Deet”-poisoning, which is the active ingredient in those chemical bug repellant sprays. These victims had only used a tiny amount of the mosquito spray (in other words, the damage wasn’t a result of long-term use) when they became afflicted so ever since I saw that report on TV, I’ve been deathly afraid of using “Off,” so when this 90-year-old friend of my 95-year-old grandmother told me about this “old timey” remedy, I was thrilled! I don’t know how it works or what it is about the dryer sheets that actually makes it repel the mosquitos but there’s no denying that it’s effective.

I did want to mention that mosquitos find certain people more attractive than usual, and I happen to be one of them! I’m sure you know what I mean: a group of people could be sitting outside, enjoying the sunset and one of them is constantly slapping and swatting at mosquitos while the rest of the group is hardly bothered at all. For those individuals, rubbing a *used* fabric softener sheet might be enough protection, so I use a fresh, new Bounce sheet and rub it over my exposed skin. Just for added protection, I sometimes tuck the dryer sheet in my back pocket (leave a bit hanging out) or tie it to my belt loop and this keeps me bite-free when I’m out of doors!

BTW, in addition to repelling mosquitoes, these fabric softener dryer sheets also keep the bees/wasps/yellow-jackets away, which is an added bonus to me because I’m deathly afraid of them! I got stung on the eyelid by a red wasp when I was a kid and ever since that time, I freak completely out if a bee or wasp gets anywhere near me. I mean, my terror is so great that one day a bee flew in through my car window when I was stopped at a red light and I freaked and panicked so much that I accidentally lefted my foot off the brake pedal and rear-ended (actually, it was more like a “love-tap”) the police car in front of me. Fortunately for me, the cop inside had a good sense of humor and was very understanding because his daughter has a similar phobia about flying insects that sting.

Just wanted to share my recent purchase!! Its a newly launched spa line called panpuri from thailand. I bought the creme de corps moisturiser with shea butter, olive, jasmine n mint. LOVELY!!!! shea butter is very hydrating n jasmine is a heavenly scent!! It feels a bit heavy though, so i use it only at night before bed. I'm now in love with jasmine scents...anyone know of any other products with this scent? Is there such a thing as jasmine essential oil?

Yep. I can't believe you guys don't have them down there. Surely that's not right! Maybe they just sell them under a different brand name in Oz?

I have seen them somewhere but cannot remember where. I definitely remember seeing them because at that time I had never seen them before! I don't think they're common here but I'll suss out my local Coles and see what they've got Smile

I just did a search of Australian websites using “fabric softener dryer sheets” as the key word/s and it kept returning hits for “Snuggle Dryer Sheets” so I guess that’s the only brand you guys have down there. The brandname doesn’t really much, it’s still the same product and it will still repel mosquitos and bees/wasps. Next time you’re at the supermarket, check in the laundry aisle where they laundry detergents and bleach, etc, and see if you can find them. In addition to Snuggle, another (U.S.) brandname is “Bounce,” or “Cling-Free.” I think they even have “Downey” dryer sheets now, too.

Hey, all you Brits: do you guys have the fabric softener dryer sheets across the pond? Surely it can’t just be something that’s popular in America, I mean, *everybody* wants soft clothes and an “April fresh scent”!!!

mmm, surely april-fresh is essential for modern living. will keep eye out for dryer sheets (not that i have a dryer to put them in- need one tho with recent heavy rainfalls). but mosquito problem here is very poor- many a mosquito plus a gigantic and creepy breed of mosquito possibly close to large moth size. think newcastle was built over a swamp, which has angered the resident mosquito population. v aggressive and bitey ones here. definitely keen on new and innovative dryer sheets idea.

Thanks!!

Yeah we have bounce sheets here. I don't use them cos I don't have a dryer, but I'm not really that keen on fabric conditioners. I think they smell really horrid and chemically and they make me sneeze! I had also heard that they damage your clothes. Which maybe a good thing cos it means I can get rid of older stuff and buy new, but I have stuff from 20 years ago that I still like wearing so that's another reason to give it a miss.

I also like the fact that my towels have a degree of 'scratch' to them, partly cos they dry me faster than conditioned towels and partly cos I'm ...well...I dunno. Odd? Laughing

Then you’d really like the towels at the hotel I’m (still) staying at – my God, you could sand furniture with them!!!
