why? is it the hair bands than snap the hair? For years now, every now and again it gets noticeable that when I wear my hair back in a pony all these strands of short hair shows up, right now it's long enough to tuck behind the ear...why why why? diet? me? any idea ladies.
have a good weekend Enjoy Live8 'n all that. |

My hair is in terrible condition at the moment as it really, really needs a trim. I wear my hair back a lot as I can't stand having it on my face. I bought some snag-free hairbands from Boots but they are rubbish. I hear that these are supposed to be good but I haven't tried them. |

I've been using snag-free hair bands for years now and they're a BIG improvement on the ones with the metal tabs. I would definitely suggest trying them. They are available in most major drug stores, at least in the US, and aren't too expensive. |

They are too flimsy for my hair I need something with more ooomph! They snap in seconds unless your hair is really fine or you just tie up little bits. Could be I'm using crp ones mind you |

yeah those snag free bands are not really snag free, at least when I use them.
Hmmm have to look at other ways of tying my hair back without the hairband face lift.
Those big metal claws are ok, plastic is no good, my hair fights back and snaps them
on another note, I used henna then indigo on my hair at the weekend and its given it loads of body |

Hi ladies - got my Hairdressing hat on now (qualified in hair & beauty).
Basically the snag free bands or a fabric 'scrunchie' are your best bet to prevent breakage but the problem is that the strain on the hair is always in the same place - imagine a piece of wire thats quite flexible or a plastic credit card say, if you continually bend it in the same place it will eventually snap. Hair is the same, if the 'bend' and strain is in the same place eventually that point in the hair weakens and snaps.
Try moving the height of your pony tail regularly - this moves the tension point so its not always in the same place which should prevent the breakage to an extent. A regular deep condition will also help by maintaining elasticity and suppleness (Philip Kingsley 'Elasticizer' is a good one for this!
