Ok, saw this on QVC. It is essentially - from what I gather, the system is based round using salicylic acid/ glycolic acid and sulpher for treating acne/breakouts.
Anyone tried it? |

I noticed that QVC was now selling it in the UK. I think it has been available for a while in the U.S. It doesn't have a great rating on MUA.
It also seems to get mixed reviews on here. Some people swear by it to clear up their skin, others find it too drying. I suppose it all depends on how oily your skin is and how you react to the main active ingredients - benzoyl peroxide and glycolic acid. I find BP incredibly drying on my skin so try to stay clear of the stuff. |

They have had *tons* of celebrity endorsments throughout the years. I really doubt all those celebrities are using it. |

I agree with you 100% on that. It's all about the money.
I also noticed that Britney Spears is one of their celebrity names. The products don't seem to be sorting her skin out. I've lost count of the number of photos I've seen of her in the press with really bad breakouts. Not a good advert for the products. |

Ive used this stuff and it doesnt work!! I highly doubt jessica simpson, P-diddy and Spears uses pro-activ. My dermatologist and asthician also told me this stuff is a joke.
The first step (renewing cleanser) was way too harsh on skin, it's like an exfoiliant, but when you use it twice a day like they recommend it will cause your skin to become red and irritated. The toner is nice. But then the third step (repairing lotion) which is the medication is way too drying. I put it on all over my face and the next morning my face is all dry and flaky.
If you have acne i say go to a dermatologist and get a precripted medication instead of wasting money on commercial products. |

I dunno, ProActiv worked for me. I loved that system because it got the job done. I never wore make up after like 3 months on ProActiv |

A quick FYI:
Just a couple of months before beginning to do ProActiv commercials last year, one of the above-mentioned celebrity endorsers was quoted in a red carpet TV interview as saying,
"I used to break out so bad [sic]. Then a couple of years ago, I went to my dermatologist and she prescribed Accutane for me. It was the only thing that ever worked for me!"
Two months later, they appear on television claiming that ProActiv was the only thing to ever work for them. |

I've used the whole system, it's mainly based on benzoyal peroxide in the cleanser and 'repairing' lotion with a bit of glycolic acid in the toner. There are salicylic acid products too but the main three are bp and glycolic acid.
I started using it early last year and initially it felt really nice. I needed the exfoliation (the cleanser is grainy has bp in it), the toner is soothing and did decrease inflammation for me, the bp lotion is so incredibly drying though and the fragrance is over whelming and increased the irritating properties of the bp.
It seemed to work well at first but with time dried me out so I was a flaking mess all the time. Relatively zit free but red and irritated too.
I think there are better bp, glycolic and salicylic acids products out there. I also found the system very expensive for what you get. |

they are probably using products we've never heard of before, something that costs like $1000 for a bottle.
I really doubt those celebrities would be using proactiv especially when they have top dermatologists and esthicians advising them what to use |

I agree with BCgirl. The stars are paid only to endorse the product, I doubt they use it themselves. They probably turn their noses up at "cheap" skin care products like Proactiv, even though it seems to us ordinary folk to cost a fortune. hehehehehehe. Still, when you think about it, it just goes to show that some of us ordinary people using our cheaper products, have better skin than a lot of the stars. It's a slightly comforting thought, considering how much the stars must be paying for their skin treatments

I'm seeing one of the best dermo.'s in Toronto. He made my acne under control with Vitamin A acid. Now I'm shopping for the best skincare products. What does everybody think of Valmont skincare line?
P.S. Just saw Cindy Crawford skincare line advertisement. What do you think of her line? |
