I'm not 40 something but I can tell you that vitamin C serums and argireline products have worked really well for my mum on her frown lines and also improved her skin texture and firmness. She's using the Vivier 20% C serum at the moment and also Alphaderma CE (argireline product) among a few others. I would also suggest looking into products with glycolic acid and maybe vitamin A as well to resurface the skin and help with the lines. Also, very importantly, sunblock during the day to prevent sun damage. |

I don't know about getting rid of wrinkles, but retinol products can reduce lines and smooth the skin. There are many to choose from: SkinCeuticals has 2 strengths - 1% and .5%; IS Clinical Pro Heal Serum contains 1% as well as other ingredients; MD Forte has a Rejuvenation line with retinol for eyes and face that also contains AHA; even something like Roc (found in drugstores) has retinol products. I'm using up some Lancome Resurface samples which contain retinol and have noticed a difference. Retinoids are Vit.A derivatives, and if your skin can tolerate 1% without causing too much flaking and/or peeling, you could even try a prescription retinoid like Renova or Retin-A.
AHAs will help as well to refine the skin surface. I'm using IS Clinical Firming Complex and really love it. |

Thanks for the info, I am using vit c, I've tried to stay away from retinol since it tends to cause my skin to go nuts and I have very normal skin, not too many wrinkles but that omg there starting, is happening. I keep seeing stuff about peels, any good advice on a great one.

Try the ALphaderma 5 day sample kit...you should see enough difference in 5 days to know if you want to give it a try |

I believe that you can get rid of some wrinkles. I am around 50 and in the past 2 years have significantly reduces my wrinkles to one line by my mouth.
What worked.
First diet; Good fats, protein, lots of water,
berries, dark veggies and lots of water. No processed foods, no bad fats, white flour or sugars.
This without any face creams significantly reduced wrinkles.
Next vit C serums and glycolic acid peels and creams. This evened my skin tone and significantly reduced wrinkle depth.
I now also use DMAE and ALA creams (Renova).
The peptide products did not work for me (gave me crepey skin under one eye). I do mix Marixyl (one of the skin thickening peptides) into my preps. I use copper peptides after peels for healing.
In short I do not believe in the short term fixes. Things that stimulate skin growth are good and take time. You will learn nothing in 5 days except whether you are allergic to a product and whether it does short term skin tightening (hydrolyzed proteins etc "tighten" skin but I believe do no long term good.
Everybody is different u need to try things out. The ingredient that most people love and has many positive research trials is vit C.
Some of the peptides can make skin thicker but this happens over months (also with the eception of Maxtrixyl I believe none have had unbiased tests). Because they can cause bad reactions in some people I'd initially try products with only one of a type of an ingredient. Try is for at least 6 weeks (if you do not have an allergic reaction) before deciding.
This forum is a useful strating point for which things are best for dry or oily skin and reporting the texture of products (you may like a watery, oily serum or a heavy cream).
Good luck! |

I like you do not belive in quick fixes, I could work on my water intake...and well as far as diet, well lets say I could work on that as well. Since I dont need to lose weight I tend to forget to be good in that department. Ok now to my question, everyone talks about glycolic peels, I have tried a few in past but have always been disappointed, which ones work well. Is the alpha one just mentioned a peel or cream. Also for the record I have taken great care of my skin since I was around 13 I definately believe in skin care, just so much works for a bit then stops. I'd love a great peel to do weekly that produces results. Thanks ladies for your imput.

For peels, check outwww.platinumskincare.com . I would start with a low one, like 30%. These are not creams or anything like that; they are actual chemical peels like you would receive at a derm's office. You have to be careful with them, and work your way up to longer time and higher percentages. I still use 30%, although I have some 40% to move on to when this 30% is done. |

I like using glycolic peels but like any of the other things that work it takes time. Do
not use this kind of peel weekly. You can thin your skin doing these peels too often. Every 2 weeks should be OK. There are higher pH creams (you absorb less) that can be used daily safely. |

La Roche-Posay Anthélios XL Fluide Extreme SPF 60, prescription retinoids, a strong Vitamin C serum, an unbuffered glycolic acid, and an ordinary moisturizer in my opinion is the best antiaging regime out there.
This is the regimen I follow 9 months out of the year (summertime, it's just self-tanner, moisturizer at night, and Anthélios 60), and I am very happy with what it does to my complexion. So that I won't irritate my skin with the above topicals, I never apply more than one on a given day, and I alternate them - and always before bed, too, so that my skin has all night to "get over it." lol |

Sharky, you and I agree on many points.
I have never tried peptides, and will hold off on doing so and will wait to see if there continue to be raves about it years from now. |

Ok so far I think everyone is saying a good 30% glycolic peel every 2 weeks and vitamin C. I used the matrixyl products and thought I loved them, I ran out about 3 months ago and my skin still hasn't changed from not using it, so everyone might be on to something in regards to the peptides not really being all there cracked up to be. It was an accidental test, but a good one, I certainly won't be wasting my money on them for abit. Thank you all for your help. |

MelissaMarie,
Just wanted to mention that you don't have to do the peel every 2 weeks...just no more than that. If my skin actually peels after I do a peel, I usually wait longer to do the next one. I don't want to thin my skin... But if I don't get any peeling afterwards, I will do it again 2 weeks later. |

Those ratings sites are full of bull. The mftrs. pay to get listed on the sites. Hydroderm is the scam of all scams. Just try stopping those automatic monthly shipments. People say it's like being in endless shopper hell. You can't get out of that loop and the product just keeps on arriving. One woman mentioned that she had to cancel her credit card to stop the orders! |
