Hi I am 20 years old, and have never dyed my hair before. My hair is getting gradually darker, and I miss my lighter blonde hair... That being said, I have really great natural highlights in my hair, and dont want to lose them if I dye my hair lighter... I also dont want to use sun in, or other such products that give you highlights, because I already have great ones... I just want all my hair lightened... will dying my hair get rid of my natural highlights? is there anyway to keep them... just lighten everything???

My advice is not to dye it. Unless you also go get highlights, you won't have highlights anymore if you dye your hair. There's no way to keep your natural highlights. Blonde hair actually is rare in adults, it occurs in children but as they grow up it gets darker- blonde is really a very artificial color in adults. Anyway, dye is damaging.

Or you can dye it... If you really want blonde hair, which is understandable. You can get highlights that contrast with your base color so you'll look lighter overall.

Yes, your natural highlights will probably get blended into the all-over lightness if you do all-over color at home.
My advice? Get it professionally done the first time so you can see how it SHOULD look before attempting any DIY projects!!! A colorist can do hightlights/lowlights to keep that natural blonde look you like so much.
A few highlights here & there are easy to do at home in between professional colorings, but an all-over dye job done at home can look really bad, unless you use a gentle kit and only go up a shade at a time. Be prepared for the upkeep if you start coloring your hair, too - you know how dark roots look! Trashy!

Have you ever thought of doing it naturally? I have lemon recipe that gives me great, subtle natural look highlights.
