i need some advice/reassurance
i have the above spots, i have 4 in a line of the side of my face, the latest spot is red and about 1/2inch and looks swollen. i have another 2 spots on my jawline red and swollen and for some strange reasons have spots along one side of my hairline and around the back of my hairline(also red)(i havent changed any hair products/shampoos)
they always appear next too each other (so as soon as one goes another comes up!), im using dermalogica clay cleanser, toner, oil control lotion, ylang ylang oil.
i use corys makeup so nothing is clonging my skin, and use tea tree oil on each spot (applying several times during the day), i have now changed to witch hazel to try and get the redness down.
it really is driving me mad and making me feel self conscious, makeup does not cover it..
would these be cysts spots? my skin has been like this since july and i changed to dermalogica travel pack about 2-3 weeks hoping for an improvement (but may switch back to decleor as my skin was spotfree and only appeared at time of the month, i cant afford declor at the mo)and my skin itches i feel like i have the plague!!
sorry for the long post...oh and i KNOW i will get another red scare (am eyeing up the vit c) |

Hey there
I need a better description of the spots to know if theyre cystic - cystic spots feel fluidy - if you imagine (terrible example coming) one of the individual bubbles of bubble wrap fillled to capacity with water and how that would feel that would point to evidence of your spots being cystic. Also, if you were to burst them with a needle and they would immediately ooze fluid then thats all points to cystic spots too.
If they are hard and not incredible raised then they are more likely to be your conventional spot not associated with the severe form acne vulgaris.
From the sounds of it I think your spots are not cystic. But im not entirely sure.
My absolute holy grail of spot busters is DDF Sulfur Therapeutic Mask with Dermalogicas medicated clearing gel underneath (having cleansed and exfoliated first), left on overnight. I find that for me, nothing is more powerful than this combination. I find then if I add La Prairies Retexturing Booster underneath this combo (so my LP, the Gel, then Sulfur Mask) my spots are 90% improved the next morning. Getting your hands on the LP retexturising booster on a budget is next to impossible however.
Thats my advice, I hope it helps.

This sounds like exactly what I get too. Always, in the main on my chin, jawline and near my hairline. I dread getting them because they last for what seems an age and nothing seems to help them disappear.
Mine sometimes leave a mark when they do finally go. Try not to pick or squeeze them, it'll leave a scar and they take longer to heal.
Maybe the clay mask you're using is helping to draw these spots to the surface. Maybe you're drying out your skin too much by using the clay cleanser and the oil control lotion. I have oily skin and am using dermalogica special cleansing gel. I think although I have oily skin its probably dehydrated too which might be bringing up the spots?
Anyway hope they disappear foryou soon! Let me know if you find a cure |

I'd try using the PSF O2 Rescue serum. It really worked healing cuts and blemishes for me. I also use Tazorac on blemish areas and that really stops them from coming back. |

Hey Purple Princess
I had a similar problem when I switched from Clinique to natural products. I got two or three of the biggest zits in my life along my jaw, and they were quite red too.
I tried using clary sage essential oil on the spots directly and it helped with redness.
Perhaps some supplements like zinc, B complex, and good supplemented protein in your diet.
I have noticed a lot less big break outs since starting on supplements. |

thank for the advice, after trying the witch hazel yesterday, it seems to have calmed down the redness. but i now have a nice scab
i will look at trying the supplements as recommended, i changed from decleor to dermalogica clay cleanser as my skin went through a really oily stage and it seems to have helped, but not sure if it is throughly cleaning my skin (when i wash it of, the clay leaves a residue on my skin), i will probably go back to decleor...
my diet is not brilliant, i drink water, but dont eat any fruit, dont eat crisps or junk food, i have slight IBS so only eat white bread, brown bread makes my skin and stomach worse! im a fussy eater...
thanks again |

I think the scab might be from using the Tea Tree Oil on them. It can be very drying and should not be applied undiluted to the skin (unless you know for sure that your skin can handle it). Any pimples that I get always respond well to AHA/BHA combination products, or just BHA itself. I've got MDF Clearing Complex and Jan Marini Bioglycoli Bioclear for treating spots. The DDF mask that Farouk mentioned always got good reviews on MUA for spot treatment (it's still on my list but can't justify buying it right now). |

mabsy - the tea tree oil i have been using is this
http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1026381&classificationid=1023468&slmRefer=000
T-Zone Spot Zapping Treatment Stick, it does dry the spots out but takes a day/weeks to see a difference, i have got slight dryness around the spots and use E45 cream (suitable for dry skin/areas) which helps.
(my wishlist is for evergrowing!!) |

I get those kind of pimples too!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think the worst part is that with a regular pimple as long as you dont look in the mirror too often you can forget they are there, but these ones hurt so damn much there's no way you can forget them!!
I've still never found a way to get rid of them but I think I have the prevention part under control (lets just hope I dont jinx myself - it's been at least 6 months since I've had one!!)
Prevention:
* a relatively healthy diet (lots and lots of water)
* gentle & simple skin care routine
* supplement called vitex agnus castas (my pimples are hormonal and this helps to balance hormones)
* application of Clindatech solution (topical antibiotic containing clindamycin) once a day on the areas I normally break out (for me that's my chin and left cheek). |
