Hi all,
I have no idea what is going on with my skin
In the last weeks I have been noticing a burning sensation in my cheeks, I go to look in the mirror, and the area is very red.
Just in the last week it's gotten worse and I have these episodes twice a day at least. Today this happened twice to my cheeks and right now, I noticed the same thing just above the cheeksbones under both eyes... :K
I have not changed anything in my skincare routine, I havent been out much in the sun, and I havent eaten anything spicy/new.
Whats wrong with me? Who should I see about it?

Aga,
Sorry to hear about your skin condition. What all are you using on your face? What's your routine? Have you started on any new medications lately? |

stress can cause your skin to react...sometimes sensitive just seems to react on its own. I go through stages where my skin is nice..then other times it decides to hate me. I'll get random red splotches that look like rashes..within a few hours they totally go away. very weird.. |

Hi there,
I am using Origins cleanser and ACV toner + acne gel (both only in the T zone )
I am not taking any medication either.
This is so weird, I feel like my face is sunburned right now! Itchy and burny and its red! Maybe I did get sunburned yesterday...? but I only got out of the car to go to the store a couple of times, wasnt in the sun for more that 5 minutes for sure...that wouldnt make sense, right?
But other than that, the other flare-ups are definately something different. I may be sitting at home and all of the sudden it happes and then goes away after 20 minutes....
I am going to try and see my GP this week.....was just wondering if anyone knows what this weid thing is..

Hi Aga,
I am not a dermatologist but as soon as you mention ITCHY it does sound like some kind of allergic reaction. It probably is a good idea to see your doctor. Allergies are on the rise. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing. |

Its a form of cosmetic dermatitis. I went to the doctor when this happened to me. She prescribed an antibiotic cream to put all over my face and neck. This quickly cured my discomfort and made my skin look really great. The formulation is cetaphil cleanser mixed with a cream base & 2% Clindamycin. |

Hi there,
I just got back from the doctor and it was sucha waste of time and money.
She told me she doesnt see anything wrong with my skin and that i need to use a moisturizer....I kepy telling her my skin burns and is itchy all the time, and she totally ignored it...
I dunno what to do....
If I need to see a dermatologist I need to go outside my insure cuz that GP didnt give me a referal...

How can I diagnose cosmetic dermatitis? |

Hi Aga:
Check out this link at Mayo Clinic. I couldn't find "cosmetic dermatitis" but there's a pic of a patient with "contact dermatitis" with symptoms that sound like yours.

I know that this sounds funny but.....are you using a new detergent to wash your laundry???? A bit far fetched but you never know..... |

Not far-fetched at all: I had a horrible reaction to Purex and i've been fine since switching to Tide FREE (free of phosphates, dies, and perfumes).
Also, could it be something in your tap water? I live by the lake and seasonally it starts to smell (as does our tap water) and causes minor allergies in some people.
I would try and maybe fast for a day, just drink mineral water. Maybe it's something you ate/drank and it needs to wash out of your system.
I hope you find out what's causing it ASAP. |

WOW...great thought. My daughter can't use Tide powder laundry detergent. She gets an itchy raw rash. It mainly showed up on her neck. Took forever to discover the cause. This was several years ago. Forgot all about allergies related to laundry detergent until you mentioned it. |

Allergic reactions are always a very strange thing. My husband and I used Tide for yrs. About 5 yrs ago everytime he came home (which was every weekend) I would break out in a very severe way (EVERY part of my body would itch). I had even semi-joked that maybe I was allergic to him which he didn't find funny at all.
Several months later and lots of money to a doctor who "supposedly" specialized in allergies, we realized I'm allergic to Tide detergent combined with the oils in my husbands skin. The funny thing is we used this detergent for almost 10 years with no problem whatsoever. For me, this allergic reaction developed and has only progressoively gotten worse. What started as a reaction to Tide and my husbands oils has developed into a full blown reaction to ANYTHING that has been washed by Tide.
The point being....you may want to reevaluate everything you've been using and see if there may be a problem you're not yet realizing.
HTH,
Stephanie |

Hi all,
Thanks for all your suggestions!
I havent used anything new as far as laundry detergents, or cosmetics.
I had problems with acne, but since I started a new simple routine it has all cleared up, and I have been using the same stuff for the last 3 months without any problems.
Same with make-up, havent gotten anything new either.
I would just hate to go to a dermatologist and be told that there's nothing wrong with me just because my face may not be red right that moment, but it still itches and burns... |
