I don't really know how often you should do it - I always thought that once a week would be good although this would depend I guess on what your hair is like. I would like to deep condition mine once a week but, to be honest, I keep forgetting. It's more like once a fortnight or once every three weeks, or a month even!

Could you be doing any damage? When I condition my hair too much it gets oily quicker, perhaps that might be one thing to be aware of?

It depends on the type of product you’re using to deep condition. Does it contain a lot of silicones? If yes, then it could begin to buildup on your hair, although using a clarifying shampoo (or simply adding some baking soda/bicarbonate or ACV to any shampoo) well help remove it.

Personally, I subscribe to the rule that if your hair is in good condition already, then you only need to deep condition it once per week or every two weeks. But if you color-treat your hair and/or abuse it with blow drying, heat-straightening or curling irons, then you should deep condition it 1-2 per week.

Anyway, provided the deep conditoner that you’re using doesn’t contain a lot of silicones, then I don’t think you’re doing any actual harm by deep conditioning it more often....

I usually do a clarifying shampoo and a deep condition about once a week.
