Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me with a really good cream or lotion for really dry acne prone skin. I recently did Obagi and it really did a number on me. Now I am trying to correct the dryness, acne, and DARKER hyperpigmentation and get back to where I was before! Would a Decleor oil (neroli?)make it worse or would it help?? Any suggestions would be really appreciated! Thank you! |

Dry and acne-prone with hyperpigmentation. That's tough. I am thinking maybe the cream version of Retin-A. It will help with the acne and the hyperpigmentation while not being quite as drying as the gel version. Your skin will have to get used to the Retin-A though and you are likely to suffer through some initial flakiness while your skin adapts to it. A mild moisturizer could be used the next morning to help deal with flakiness. Also, many here recommend Dr. Hauschka's Cleansing Cream as an excellent cleanser for your type skin. If you could tolerate a vitamin C serum, this will also help to fade away hyperpigmentation. Skinceuticals makes one that includes AHAs which would help to exfoliate away the dry dead skin but since it contains water, the formula itself could be somewhat drying to your skin. I use the C+ Firming serum from cellularskinrx.com which is quite slippery-feeling. I am not acne-prone though. Do you think your skin tolerates propylene/butylene glycol well? This is what the C+ base is made of so even though it will help tremendously with hyperpigmentation, I'd hate to see you break out from it.
Good luck! |

I'm so sorry that you had such a negative reaction to Obagi. I used the entire system, plus retin-A for six months with nothing but positive results. Another example of just how different everyone's skin is.
Take care. |

betterat40......Thank you so much for the feedback. I have used vit c several times over the years, but never really "stuck" with it like I should have. I am looking at all of the different brands and is really overwhelming! I appreciate the input. As far as the Decleor goes, do you think the neroli oil and Iris balm (for night) will be too heavy and cause breakouts? Or would it be good since my skin is so parched from the Obaji? Thanks again for the help, I really need it since I don't know what direction to go from here! |

Debra....I guess you (and I am sure many more) are one of the lucky ones! I am so envious. I was so excited to start the whole program and I totally stuck to it EVERY day and it really just made my skin dry and dull and darker in certin areas that were not even problems to begin with! I used the retin-a and am thinking about using it again as soon as my skin calms down. |

I don't know if the Decleor will be too heavy. I have not used those oils. I use rosehip, jojoba, rice bran, and pomegranate seed oils on my skin but I do not break out often (and I don't use all of them at once.
There are many Decleor users here. I'm sure they will chime in a let you know. I wouldn't consider your skin to be permanently dried out by the Obagi though. If it was not dry before Obagi, it will return to what it was then given some time. |

Hi trueblu,
Exactly how bad Obagi did to your skin? Very serious damage?
You know what, I have emailed EDS's staff to combat acne (other than Murad Acne Complex Kit), they actually recommmended Obagi.
This brand is very new to me and I would like to hear any comments on this line.
For hyperpigmentation, i remember some recommendation from this board is Vit-C serum and Murad's Vit-C daily renewal complex. By the way, Obagi emphasize on giving a solution to hyperpigmentation, right? It doesn't work??
Thanks. |

Hi Bighead.....Well as I have seen several times, it seems that Obagi works different for everyone. My best friend had AWSOME results and so have many others that I have seen use it, but in my case.....it has been different. I would recommend going to a dermatologist and talking with them if you can. I don't want to scare you away from Obagi because it has really worked for many people that I know. As far as me...my skin is now REALLY dry, dull and breaking out, worse than before I started Obagi Now all I want to do is get back to where I was! Check out the past threads on Obagi....it seems that there is lots of positive feedback! |
