Normally, I'm not a person who like messing around with facial masks, etc, but on Sunday, I thought I should give my skin some TLC, and put on the Gentle Cream Exfoliant by Dermalogica, which is a peelingmask containing some glycolic acid. Well, my skin looked fine afterwards; glowing and very soft, so I was satisfied.
But now, two days on, I've developed very dry, sandpaper-like skin in some places on my chin and around my nose, and everything I put on it stings Yesterday, I only put on some Dr H Rose Cream, because this normally calms skin down.
But it's a bit flaky and rough to the touch! What can I do? I'm still a bit sore, so I'm hesitant to exfoliate more, but I need to get rid of the flakes.
Normally, my skin tolerates this mask, but obviously not at the moment. |

Nemi,
I really wanted to like and be able to use this mask as well, but all it did was burn my skin! I use Dermalogica and have tried most of their products, but this one is far too irritating. I can do a 30% glycolic peel left on for 4 minutes with no problems, but this just wrecks my face. I don't know why! If you like Dermalogica, one of their best masks IMO is the Multivitamin Recovery Mask. It turns orange as it dries and smells "earthy", but it makes your face feel great. HTH! |

I have the Multivitamin mask, but I am a bit lazy for masks But I should probably stay away from them, or stick to the soothing ones. Now, my poor face peels and looks flaky, but I'm a bit hesitant to do anything to it. Maybe the microfoliant and then the multivitamin mask as bedtime treat? |

Nemi,
If your face feels like sandpaper with rough, peely patches, you may have contact dermatitis from the exfoliant. Do not exfoliate or use anything on your face except gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
Don't know if you can get hydrocortisone cream otc in your area. If so a thin layer or mixed with a plain moisturizer will do. Let the flakes peel off naturally and keep a note of the ingredients list of the exfoliant for future reference.
Good luck |

Nemi, I'm so sorry that happened to you. DGCE is one of my fav from Dermalogica. In fact, I make it even 'less gentle' by mixing in a few drops of their Skin Renewal Booster!
You could calm things down with Dermalogica's Hydrating Mask if you have it, or you can go back to where you purchased the DGCE and tell them DGCE irritated your skin, and they'll give you something to soothe it. Another option to try (which is what I'll do seeing that I'm so into homemade stuff these days) is to wipe on some green tea toner. HTH some.
Good luck! |

I'll try some green tea. I've also considered digging out the Decleor-balm for dry skin that I have in my closet, somewhere.
Normally, my skin tolerates that mask, but obviously, it's sensitive at the moment. |

Actually, I found the GCE a bit irritating to my skin as well. But someone recommended that I apply the Multi-Vit Power Recovery Mask immediately afterwards, either by applying a thick layer and rinsing it off like the instructions imply, or else apply a thin layer of MVPRM (like you would a moisturizer) and leave it on overnight. I tried it both methods and they both helped tremendously! These days, if I ever overdo it with any type of exfoliant or peel, I slap on some MVPRM and everything returns to normal by the next day.
Seriously, Nemi, you should try the MVPRM! Since you don’t like to bother w/ masks, apply like a moisturizer and rinse it away the next morning. I really think it’ll help! |

I love the mv-mask as a nighttime treat. Actually, I put it on yesterday before going to bed, and underneath, I put some Aromessence Rose d'Orient from Decleor, and in the morning, my skin was less dry.
But see my other thread, about perioral dermatitis...It seems my skin is going through a rough patch |
