Ok, I was diagnosed with hormonal imbalance & have been taking BCP for several years now. My cystic acne disappeared completely, scars & all & I was happy. I did not even use anti-acne products some months back.

But, all of a sudden, my cystic acne has made a major comeback. I have not stopped BCP & there are no changes in my diet, lifestyle, or stress levels.

My questions: is it just me or does this happen to others as well? Does anyone continue to get acne while on BCP? Should I wait it out, take antibiotics, or use OTC acne products (I already use some OTC & they don't work)

I would like these little evil demons to go away soon Mad Thank you in advance Smile

The lady that does my facials, said I had cystic acne along my chin line due to hormones. She recommended taking the capsule Evening Primrose Oil that is supposed to be really helpful for balancing your hormones. She's from Australia(like many members here), and said it's very popular there that they even have specials breads for it??

She said it will take at least a month to see the results. It's been about 2 weeks and I actually am seeing less new breakouts. Keeping my fingers crossed!(I am not on BCP)

Gosh, these hormonal breakouts are sooo frustrating Sad I've been able to calm down mine with a few new products but not completely stop them.

Fairlyfair, our skin types seem similar and I'm looking into supplements. Is it safe to take EPO, and in what concentration? Have you had any side effects? TIA

Check the posts I put on the acnease thread.

Can't say it will work for everyone but I would serioulsy consider it.

"I would like suggest three kinds of products for acne:

1. Skin solution tablet + 101E (Acne Getaway lotion): The tablet is special
formula for acne, reduce infection and detoxify the body;

101E lotion is for external apply.
2. Happy plus pills--For female hormone related acne. Start taking the happy
plus pills a week before period to help reduce acne, use two weeks
every month. (It called happy plus pills, acturally it not only help relief
tension but also help REGULATE FEMALE HORMONE.)"

All I can think of is that you were doing fine on the BCP and maybe your body has become immune to it??? I really do feel for you, I had acne all through my teens and it was only until a few years ago that I started reading into diet and nuitrition that I have cleared my skin by taking B Vitamins, Zins and Vitamin A.
My skin is really clear now, I get the occassional blemish but nothing like I used to.
I also through all my acne creams and topical applications in the bin as I read that you absorb all the chemicals through your skin into the body.
I found Lavender and Tea Tree Essential Oils are the best topical applications, along with Witch Hazel and Jojoba is excellent for Oil production.

I found this, it gives reviews of the topical lotion they suggest using. Most liked it others hated it. Cool I think if you have hormonal breakouts like we do then an internal product should also be used to help balance things out.

I'm a fan of the yonka lotion for clearing skin but for me this 101E is working better and without the detoxing blemishes I can get the yonka.

I think it's just a matter of finding what works for you, just like some skin products work for one not the other, I'm a qualified aromatherapist but couldn't figure out how to clear my skin, nothing would work, however I do make up great potions for coughs and colds Smile

I've read for acne you should take 3 tablets of 500mg evening primrose oil a day, but I only take 1 tablet a day. On this site which is an herbal site that discusses acne in detail says to take 2 tablets 3 times a day

http://www.news2news.com/news/iris/2000/8/a_4_6.htm

It seems quite excessive to me. I don't know about any side effects, but I did read those on estrogen therapy for breast cancer should avoid it.

Evening Primrose Oil has the essential fatty acids that are good for the skin. I read many take it for PMS. It's still too early for me to tell if it's the EPO helping my cystic acne.

Thank you Fairlyfair for sharing that info and link. Yes, 1500 mg a day seems excessive to me to. If I go this route I will start off with 1 tab and consider increasing dosage if I see no results. Thanks again, and please let us know how you're getting on Smile
