i've been using the oil cleansing method to wash my face for about two weeks now and it's been working wonders! it's like a vacuum for pores. dirt rises, i get a whitehead, and it goes down in a day or two. it's also really relaxing, but the only problem is the amount of time it takes. it's such a long process. a lot of people on here rave about this mysterious man named dr. hauschka!!! will he give the same results as the oil? maybe better ones??
by the way -- anyone have a non-oily high spf sunscreen they could recommend? i HATE the way mine feels and it ends up looking like i've been trying to make brownies on my face! (it's skinceuticals sport sunscreen spf 45) |

I actually OCM AND use Dr H's CC (actually, on a whim I decided to try the homemade version and it works just as well as the real thing, maybe even better!) each night. It does take a while, but the results are awesome! I had the most problematic skin- an oil slick, acne, CYSTIC acne, and OCM and (the homemade) DHCC has helped to normalize my skin. I barely get any acne now, and if I do, it goes away in a matter of days (whereas before it would take a month for the acne to surface and clear itself).
Also, DHCC is not really a cleanser, but a mild exfoliant. So OCM + DHCC would be a good combination, as the OCM would remove sunscreen and makeup and the DHCC would provide exfoliation. |

I hadn't realized that DHCC wasn't really a cleanser per se until a short time ago when someone pointed it out ... so I began combining DHCC [the home made version of course] to my routine.
Now that my skin has normalized I don't always have to do OCM in the AM ... so I'll just do DHCC.
I don't use a lotion-type sunscreen ... I've had nothing but problems with them in terms of clogging my pores ... making my face worse ... yada, yada, yada.
I just use mineral makeup ... which is naturally a sunscreen.
Of course, I'm also not out in the sun much either. Bright sunlight can trigger a migraine ... and I spend my life avoiding things that could trigger migraines!

I'm currently doing OCM and it's great for my skin. I haven't really tried DHCC because I don't have a grinder. |

I have been using homemade Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream made from: ground almonds, koalin clay, grapeseed oil, castor oil, essential oils and a little witch hazel.
My skin loves this concoction so much, my pores are clearer and tighter, complexion is clear and radiant, my skin glows it is like combining Dr Hauschka with the oil Cleansing method (OCM is cleansing just using oils, Castor oil is the main oil, good for oily/congested skin).
The only downside is that nothing can replicate that wonderful yeasty rose scent of the original Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream, but then that's a small price to pay |

Hi Appledaily,
I currently use CoverFX ... for a very simple reason ... it's the only brand that's available to me [as a Canadian] locally at a store!
I do, however, have a sample order en route to me from a small ebay-based minerals company called Mineral Basics. I chose that company because I had seen references to it [among others] in various threads on this board and in reaching the FAQ on the site, the woman who runs it had similar skin problems that I do/did.
According to the information on several of the larger mineral makeup companies' sites, a single layer of mineral makeup provides an SPF of 15 [although some brands claim 20] and that, unlike commercial sunscreen products, additional layers of mineral makeup provide additional SPFs of 15 ... so that two layers provide an SPF of 30. This has, apparently, something to do with the physical properties of mineral makeup and its SPF protection. How accurate this is, I can't say, but one has, at least an SPF of 15.
I do, however, have to counter Rosebud's comment that her version of DHCC is like combining OCM with DHCC ... because of the way one uses DHCC, it's not actually a "cleansing" vehicle in that it probably still doesn't remove makeup etc.
DHCC isn't a "scrub" ... at least it's not supposed to be. One is supposed to "press and roll" the mixture on one's face ... in a slow, deliberate way. I would still use OCM to remove makeup and accumulated grime before using DHCC.
I could be wrong on that score ... it wouldn't be the first time!
I hadn't, on the other hand, thought of including castor oil into the mix ... which might make a difference to a degree.
My home made version includes only almonds ground to the "oil" stage, and then pressed further [mortar and pestle action] to make it finer and to express more almond oil, to which I added non-alcohol witch hazel.
I may try adding a smidge of castor oil to the mix to see what difference that makes.

I tried the ocm yesterday for the first time and added some ylang ylang. Everywhere except my breakouts look fabulous. This is absolutly incredible to me! I really hope this helps to make my skin look better. If it does, than never in my life will I ever buy another commercial cleanser again. I really hope that it does work, and that my face doesn't get crazy again like usual , but I have a really good feeling about this so I think it will be great. I have to admit that right before I started rubbing all of that oil on my face, I was absolutely horrified, but I got over it. Thank you all so much for your help with my skin. You all are the best! And my wallet thanks you too! |

Piz Buin sunscreen DUO is the best oil free sunscreen that I ever tried. I bought it when I was in Egypt, and think it's fantastic. It came in a duo bottle, one half was spf 30 and the other was 15 which was perfect for when I was on vacation. |

I do get little blackheads on my nose and chin that I'd like to get rid of but I also have broken capillaries and flaky skin in those areas too. I'm thinking of trying OCM for cleansing but I'd need a sensitive, dry skin skin version of OCM that would work with mild rosacea.
These are the oils I have on hand:
Borage oil
Castor Oil
Jojoba oil
Peppermint EO
Lavender EO
Chamomile EO (german - haven't been able to find Roman in an EO yet)
A castor/jojoba seems like it would do the trick - has anyone tried something like this yet? |

Hi Gwynnie,
I don't know how OCM will react with rosacea ... or with your broken caps. However, since your skin is dry, you'll want a slighty higher percentage of jojoba oil to castor oil.
Personally, I'm not sure I'd use jojoba oil alone in the OCM mix. Where I live, jojoba oil is very expensive ... and for something that's on your face for a maximum of 5 to 10 minutes ... it seems such a waste!
I think I'd mix borage seed oil with the jojoba oil ... and make it about 60% ... with castor oil being the 40%. This should give you a lot of "nourishment" along with the cleansing.
Now while I've never used borage seed oil myself ... but I've seen references to it and I'm quite sure that it's been used successfully for OCM. I use jojoba as a moisturizer.
Actually, I don't know that the KIND of oil matters [except for the castor oil]. I think it's a matter of personal preference along with trial and error.
I think it's the method that's the most important aspect of OCM. I think you could use just about anything ... depending upon how your skin responds ... and it would work well, providing you follow the actual method.
I'd initially make up small batches ... no more than a couple of ounces ... to see how you like the mixture. That way if you want to try something else, it's not a big deal.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the fast reply...
Jojoba is pricey but 1.25 for a few ounces isn't bad. I also ran across Kukui oil on the personal formulator site and I wondered if anyone had any experience with it.

I'm going to pick up some grapeseed oil at the same time and make some test batches. I'll let you know how it goes >; ) |

I think to do combinations with OCM as well. Olive oil as the main oil and a little coconut oil or jojoba oil. It's great! |
