Huh! I wonder if that would also work for the little metal "bowls" that sit under the heating elements on your stove (what the heck are those called)? The thingamigs that catch the boiled over liquid and gunk. |
Um, catch pans? I think that's what they're called.
Anyway, great tip, Ari! And I can't tell you how many baby Weber grills I've tossed simply because I couldn't stand the gunky grills any longer. |

I use any powdered laundry detergent to wash my tub and shower doors- it gets all that soap scum off immediatley and works great on toilets and sinks too.
Only thing is when you cleaning the tub- if your like me you get in the tub itself- it gets reallly slippery when your cleaning so be really careful! |

Yup. Gives a whole new meaning to PITA.
Similary to laundry soap, I keep a little container of 20 Mule Team Borax near the tub and each of my sinks for a quick wipe down with a wash cloth I've just used. It's cheap, has no fragrance and really does the trick -- and it's a little less slick than laundry soap, but still ya gotta be careful. |

Thanks for the tip about club soda for red wine stains. I drink a lot of red wine and haven't had much luck with salt on the red wine. Hmmm, any particular brand of club soad? And/or any other tips specifically for red wine? TIA |

...but one from my mum who ran a pub in Mayfair.
dry white wine neutralises urine smells on soft furnishings. Useful for those of us with incontinent pets or partners. |

Makes no difference; any brand or generic is fine.
The only other tip is, treat the red wine stain as fast as you can (blotting up as much of the wine first as possible so that the soda has less to "fight" with). |

Great thread! I will pop back with a few more home remedies, but I have one for now;
To clean the inside of an electric kettle, fill with water, pop a teaspoon of citric acid into the kettle and boil. Also good for cleaning gunk from most cooking pots. Just mix with water & boil to clean! |

I read that you can pour a can of coke in your drain pipes to keep them clean.
Also I read in the Alternative Medicines magazine that women should not drink cola because it will decrease your bone density. |

Both true. Carrie has posted a number of Coca-Cola related cleaning tips, mostly involving degreasing and melting rust. WTH? I used to think it was a rumor that Coke was used to clean grunge off cement, but now I'm not so sure about that! |

Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I use it on my shoes. Amazing.
Not really a magic recipe or family secret, but it keeps my shoes looking new for longer. |
