My mom's in town for the weekend and I am in absolute awe at how perfect her skin looks at 53 yo. It's well hydrated, she has small clear pores, no breakouts and very few fine lines.

She's been using Oil of Olay's Daily Renewal cleanser and Lubriderm's Daily Moisture with SPF 15 (body lotion) as her facial moisturizer for as long as I remember. The cleanser is less than $5 and 16 oz of the Lubriderm is less than $8. I pay more than the cost of her entire routine for a year for just one of my many products. Embarassed

I can't help but think that I should try her routine for a few weeks to see if my skin might like that better. Very Happy It is NOT happy at the moment.

Is simple better? In my opinion ... yes.

Now, that said, just because those products work well for your mother doesn't mean that they will work equally well for you ... but given that skin condition is often genetic ... I'd give it a whirl. Laughing

There are lots of over-priced products on the shelves ... and sometimes the "useful" ingredients in them aren't terribly expensive. Some people feel that unless they part with an outrageous amount of money for something, it can't work ... and that's simply not true.

Just remember that all too often, you aren't paying for the product ... but the packaging, marketing and the head office as well. Laughing

If you and your mom have similar skin types ... then I'd try her regime for a while ... see how it goes. You may find, however, that your skin reacts to the change in regime by getting a little worse before it gets better.

Good luck!

Mary

Yes from me too Wink

I have been using

*homemade cleanser, all the ingredients cost under £4 and I have enough for a couple of months worth.
*witch hazel that costs £1 for a huge jar,
*Jojoba oil as a moisturiser £7 for a bottle that lasts a year,
*Lavender Essential oil to mix with the Jojoba £3 in the sale

My skin is just radient (makes up for the hair Wink ) I never wear foundation any more and this is from someone who used to have extremely bad acne. I have tried to deviate to using Dermalogica and Dr Hauschka from time to time, to feel pampered but I always return to the above. My skin just looks better using these.

I would give the Oil of Olay and the Lubriderm a go, what have you got to lose? Think of all the other goodies you could buy with the extra pennies you save.
In fact my boyfriends auntie swears by Oil of Olay (why the hell did they change the name from Ulay to Olay???, I have just bought her a whole bunch of the products from the range for her Christmas preasent Very Happy

Another YES from me.

My routine of late includes a lot fewer products and costs hundreds of dollars less, but my skin has never looked or felt so smooth and clear.

My mum uses Olay Total Effects with SPF 15 and an Olay cleanser. She still has gorgeous skin at 64. I don't go her route because it doesn't work for me.

I agree that simple is better. I've cut out products from my routine and my skin is much better than it was one year ago. I also look for simple products without many ingredients and they seem to work the best for me!
