Okay I've been doing a little research on the clinical studies for skin improvement, specifically wrinkle reduction. I was trying to find what has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity instead of just taking advertisements words for it. So, I've come across this and many other articles related to Human Growth Hormones:
http://www.smartbomb.com/roloforgrowh.html
Apparently our HGH's drop rapidly in our 20's and just continue to decrease. Secretagogues are releasers of your own natural HGH's. When taken over time, apparently there are numerous benefits, like weight loss, better sleep, mental clarity and yes skin and hair improvement. Take a look at this article if you have time. It's a little wordy but you get the gist of it.
I did a search on the internet and the biggest seller seems to be Secretagogue-One. Has anyone tried anything like this? |

Hi Tamgirl99
I tried to find scientific support for this in Medscape [a medical site primarily for dermatologists] and found articles relative to Secretagogues only in articles to do with diabetes. I didn't have time to read them ... let alone absorb them
I looked up Human Growth Hormone ... and there was a lengthy article there about it's being illegal in the U.S. for "off label" uses like anti-aging ... as there was no scientific proof of its effectiveness in that area.
Just food for thought ...

Thanks Mary. I've actually only researched the secretagogue articles but they've all been consistent and written by physicians with clinical trials. I should also mention that secretagogues are NOT hormones. Instead, they just promote the release of your own natural HGH.
I've also read a few reviews from people that used the product I mentioned above and they were all pretty good for the most part. The women all stated losing weight and the other consistencies were improved muscle mass (when weight training), more energy and better sleep. Hair growth was mentioned on one and nothing was mentioned on skin, but this article says at the end that the skin benefits didn't show up until the 8-12th weeks. I don't know how long any of these people had been using the product when they did the review, but it seems there are just so many other benefits that it might be worth a shot. I'll see if I can find any adverse effects, but so far I haven't found any. |

Hi again Tamgirl ...
Sleep? Did you say "improved sleep"?
I'm there!
I've always had a problem with sleep ... but since menopause ... well ... let's just say that there are nights I sleep for 1/2 an hour and then I'm up for one ... all night long!
Anything that will improve my sleep ... I'll try! [And actually ... the weight loss wouldn't hurt either! ]
I'll have to investigate whether or not I can get this stuff in Canada!

Hi Mary! Yeah I think I'll give this a go for 3 months and then see what I think. Since the skin effects don't kick in until 8-12 weeks, that should cover it.
My problem is that for the last 3-4 years I feel like I'm rapidly aging. My hands look like an old lady's and I've even had a few chin hairs lasered off..at the age of 26! Perhaps I need to have my hormone levels tested or something. I just had my annual physical and they ran several blood tests, but I'm not sure if they look at hormone levels.
Anyway, I haven't found any research or documentation on the negative side effects from this product so I figure I'd give it a go for the 3 months. It's kind of expensive though...$40/month. If it works it would be worth it though! I'll keep everyone posted. Let me know if you try it to Mary! |

Hi Tamgirl,
I'm having a problem finding a product in Canada that includes the word "Secretagogue" in it ... or "Symbiotropin".
I'll keep looking ... and I suspect that I will find it eventually ...
I wonder if it would be most likely in the "body building" portion of drug/health food stores?

Yeah I was thinking about stopping by GMC since it's close to me and they sell a lot of body building products. I'll let you know what I find but I might have to order it off of the internet myself. I'm sure it would be cheaper off the internet anyways. |

I've tried a number of the secretagogues. I now use the Genf20 one. If you eat good proteins and a low glycemic diet you should be able to elevate your HgH; diet did eliminate wrinkles for me (there are MEdline articles showing that this diet and L-Arginine and L-Orthinine supplements elevate HgH they do not talk about wrinkles). The main ingredients in my product are L-Arginine and L-Orthinine you can buy a cheap mix of these. If you take the supplemet and eat lots of white flour and sugar it will not work.
Also there are worthless and possibly dangerous products out there. I used something with deer velvet extract in it and got severe hives my MD knows of others who had severe allergic reactions to this ingredient. Also the pituitary component many couse problems for some but it is a minor component.
The so called "homeopathic" products with tiny amounts of HgH simply do not work. Real HgH shots are expensive and although have some good effects may also suppress your bodies normal production and make you dependent.
Anyway if you want to try something I'd suggest the Arginine/Orthinine pills and a good diet. You should see better lean mass and some wrinkle reduction over 6 months or so. |

Thanks Sharky! Anything I need to look for specifically in when purchasing these two supplements? I notice that they are often sold together so that's nice. And if these two promote HGH, then why do you take the other secretagogue product?
I eat a pretty low glycemic diet myself so I'll definitely give these a shot. Thanks again for your help. I'll post my results if I have any! |

The other has other amino acids and a pituitary extract which I'm not sure does anything and chromium which does regulate blood sugar. I take it because of the combo but I do it on and off with the arginine orthinine supplement which is much cheaper. This supplement has been shown in peer reviewed studies as long as you don't have sugar spikes (that's why it is taken 2 hours before a meal and why the supplement I take has chromium, also why it works best with a low glycemic index diet).
I've done so many things I do not know which is responsible for what but I am thinner, have more muscle mass (i. e. am thinner for a given weight) and have much less wrinkles that 2.5 years ago and I'm around 50. |

That's great Sharky. I'm so happy for you! I think I will start with the supplement and see how that goes over the next several months. At that point I might try to add the other product for a boost. You're right the supplements are much cheaper and given my financial contstraints right now, that would be best for me anyway. It'll also be a great way to see if increasing HGH's is of benefit to me, without jumping in head first.
Thank you again for all of your help! |
