I've been using the Venus for years now, but the replacement razors are sooo expensive. I was wondering what everybody's favorite shaving razor was because I'm itching to change after all these years. |

Hi Chimera! I just use the cheap disposables, they work just as well as the expensive razors in my opinion. I used to have an expensive razor but the cost of the blades was too insane!! My husband uses the more expensive razor but he has a really coarse beard so he has to, in my case el cheapo works fine for my spindly leg and arm hair! |

Moosette I hear you
I always go for the cheapest disposables as I can't stand razors that have those saftely bars on them, they just get clogged up really quickly.
With the cheaper razors I find that they give a really close shave, hence smoother legs.
Also I've found that a gel is better than a foaming cream when shaving legs. I use one by Boots Botanics that I share with my other half. |

Thanks for the advice -- I'll give the cheapos a try again, although I haven't used one since I was a teenager! I have coarse leg hair so I hope it works out. |

I'm using the Gilette Mach 3 (I think - it's a silver and green box) that's battery powered and I love it. Closer shave than the disposables, in my opinion.
But if you're going to try disposables, I can't remember the brand, but they are very thin and sleek looking and they come in packs of five in different pastel colors. I travel with them so that I don't forget the Gilette in the hotel room!
Editted to say that I checked and the pastel disposables are by Bic. |

Yes Bic are the ones I use too
The best razors I've ever used and they cost something like 75p for a pack of 6-10. |

I've got pretty coarse hair as well + sensitive skin, and have found that I cut myself with the cheapy disposables and my legs tend to rash easily + the shave is not as close as with the Venus. I totally agree the cost is insane...but rather have that than even uglier legs.
In winter I rarely bother shaving...I know some people find that "disgusting" but I've learnt the hard way that my skin needs to rest and be loved as much as possible...Luckily my boyfriend is very understanding and doesn't mind my hairy legs - which definitley helps me ... the boyfriend for that |

I use the Intuition, the chunky one with a slab of shea butter stuff welded to it, I find it great for when you're in a hurry no need to mess round with gels or foam, just wet the skin and razor and off you go. |

I have been using the Venus for awhile now too. I have on and off used other ones, including mens. Afew I thought I liked more over the Venus, however I found it was easier to cut myself with alot of other brands. So now I am back to the Venus. Have u ever considered buying the bulk pack of refill catridges at Costco...it is much cheaper. |

Hrm.. . I don't shop at Costco, but it might be worth a trip!! I end up using the same razor for months because they're so expensive! Thanks for the tip. |

Yeah, I agree with that. I was apeshit over the battery powered Venus earlier this year when it was first introduced, but it stopped vibrating within a month of purchase. After that, I got the vibrating Mach 3 but -- here's the special CareKate twist -- I use the Venus blade cartridges on it because I'm convinced they give a closer shave.
Also, maybe I'm the only one who lets my legs go so long between shaves until the hair is nearly long enough to braid but if you try to use one of those men's triple blades like the cartridges for the Mach 3 Turbo, it's really hard to rinse the blades once they get clogged with the long hair because the men's blades are wrapped with that wire. Pay attention to it next time and you'll see what I mean.... |

I never understood the point of the vibrating razors -- what exactly is the difference between the results of a vibrating and a non-vibrating razor?? |

Theoritically, they are supposed to cause the hairs to stand up by themselves so that you get a closer shave with only one stroke, rather than having to go over the same place several times with the blade. Maybe it's all in my head, but I really do believe I get a better, closer shave with the vibrating razors. Click here to read my prod review from earlier this year where I rhapsodize more fully about the benefits of a vibrating razor: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=6448&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=venus+vibrance |

CareKate - I'm gonna try the Venus blade on the Mach 3... I agree that the Mach 3 blades get clogged more than I would like, even without longer hairs. Thanks for the TIP! |
