I've gone a little product-crazy since joining the forum but not sticking with any one thing for too long because I'm an impulsive loony and have to try everything all at once (darn EDS samples!!!).
Anyway, I couldn't tell what was really working, so I decided to step back for a bit and simplify. I've been using Cetaphil cleanser and moisurizer (normal skin) every morning and night (plus Decleor Vitaroma Eye/Lip cream) for about 7 days and my skin looks just fantastic. It's fairly ironic that my product frenzy led to an inexpensive drugstore brand!
Now I feel like I can introduce something new, like a toner, on a clean slate.... and hopefully keep my hands off the other products while I see whether I'm getting results.
That leads me to a question. I think Mabsy wrote about this before... how long should I wait to see results when trying a new product? |

It just depends on your skin and how easily it can adapt. You can see results anywhere from a few days to a couple months. |

LandB this is so funny! This sounds like me sometimes! How ironic that with all the money we spend on skin care, that we come full circle and end up....where else, but at the drug store. Sometimes simple IS better! Good for you for sticking with Cetaphil as your cleanser; it really is a great product.
Back to your question. I think Mabsy would say that you should give your skin care a full 30-60 days before assessing the results. This way your skin will have gone thru all those monthly hormonal ups and downs. |

i think i'd probably say at least 28 days, which is (apparently) a cycle of skin replacement etc. but that said, we've all seen great improvements (or dramatic disasters) in much less time than that so maybe the 28 day rule doesn't necessarily apply?
that doesn't answer your question at all does it...

Just here to say I love Cetaphil too. I don't think I would ever change it. It works perfect in conjunction with Jurlique's Face Wash Cream. I would rather spend money on other products.
I read about the 28 days of skin turn-over rate but I could never use a new product for more than a week if I didn't see any improvement in my skin. I know patience is a virtue but I figure there must be products that can actually improve my skin in a short time (somewhere out there). |

Wildcat - you said it better than me. I feel like the Cetaphil cleans and moisturizes well enough, but is gentle enough, to allow me to see results more clearly with more targeted (and expensive) products.
Seems like a happy medium is to dismiss a product that gives me adverse effects quickly, but to stick with a product for 28 days that works quickly or that isn't giving an adverse effect.
THANKS ALL! |

LandB,
I'm also back to using my Cetaphil again. Although I loved the DIY recipes, I have not had time to do OCM this week. I intend to start them again after this big exam of mine. Cetaphil seems to be doing the trick for now.

I really love Cetaphil and I use the oily cleanser at night to take off eye makeup and as a shower gel. |

While I agree with giving a product at least 30 days to begin showing results, there are other things you can use which will return noticeable results almost immediately! Here I go sounding like a broken record again, but two of those products that provide "instant gratification" are the homemade ACV toner and homemade aspirin mask. Nearly every member who has tried them report an immediate, "oh my God, I can't believe it!" reaction.... |

I use the lotion and cream..and as for cleanser i use gentle. The oily version contains a fragrance and some ingredients that make my face feel tight and goes red. The gentle version is full of emollients and i jsut use a cotton ball or two to get the extra residue off. good eye makeup remover too! |

About 10-12 years ago my dermatologist recommended that I use Cetaphil gentle liquid cleanser for my entire body. I never felt like I was getting clean though and that kind of bothered me... But I am sure I was. This brings me to the following question:
Does Cetaphil liquid cleanser (both normal and oily) work well for removing makeup (mineral foundation, eye makeup, etc)?
Also, can someone please tell me the ingredients of the oily cleanser formula (liquid)?
I used to use the Cetaphil body lotion b/c it was the least irritating moisturizer I could find. 90% of the time when I would apply it to my hands they would burn and a lot of the time I would have to wash it off. I am glad I found another lotion (Aubrey Organics). Has anyone had an experience where the lotion irritated their skin?
Thx. |

I think if you use the cleansers to remove makeup, to get best results use something such as cotton balls to get the film and rest of makeup off. Without something to take it off, using just fingers won't completely clean your face.
Here are the ingredients to the oily cleanser formula:
Purified water, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate (and) PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Acrylates/steareth-20, Methacrylate Copolymer, Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Butylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Masking Fragrance, Panthenol, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Methylparaben. |
