It's pretty intense, not good for sensitive skin. Have seen nice results, but you have to maintain it by continuing with the retin-a, etc. I never got past the "ugly" period. |

I used Obagi Nu-Derm products and retin-A during a six month time period that I was also having IPL treatments. I went to a professional, who is an RN specially trained on skin and treatments within a Dr's office. I was referred to her by a friend who went to her, so I trusted her skills, knowledge and expertise. The purpose of using this combination for me was purely for hyperpigmentation (sun spots and soon to be age spots) and anti-aging (fine lines/wrinkles.) I really was not expecting much, but was amazed by my before and after picture, six months later. I was happy with the results that I got from this combination, but my skin did go through periods of peeling and a little redness at times, not severe. My skin type is dry but not normally sensitive. I was, and still am, willing to experience "the uglies" from a little peeling and flakey skin every now and then in order to continue to improve my skin tone, texture and decrease the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pore size. I make sure I exfoliate well, use an occasional enzyme mask and just dab on a little moisterizer on areas that are flakey right before a big meeting or client lunch. I still use retin-a at times--not year 'round--and always have Obagi Clear on hand to diminish any sun spots that may reappear.
There are other wonderful product lines out there that work as well. Some are milder, which may take a little longer to acheive significant results, and some are stronger, like Obagi and retin-a, where quicker results may be achieved. |

I am with skin adict. Skin was red and irritated for the whole time. I saw dr obagi himself. I had normal skin before starting obagi and after obagi I ended up with sensitive skin. My skin remained flushed 6 months after stopping obagi.
My hyperpigmentation didn't improve at all It was a complete waste of money for me plus I didn't know about all the controversy over HQ. Yikes! |

Hi, I have used Obagi for a couple of years now, on and off. At first I went through the "Uglies", but that is also caused by the active tretinoin (.05 or 1.0%) that you have to use with the blender. It did great things for my skin. The peeling etc.. was pretty intense and at times uncomfortable but you do get through it. I was buying it from my Cosmetic Surgeon in Melbourne Aust, who was charging the earth for it. A couple of months before my wedding I went in there to get some product (as I run out and wasnt using it for a while), they had a price increase of about 400% from when I first started using it, so I got very annoyed and told them to forget it. That's when I started looking on the internet for it and paying less than the original price that he was charging me. It does work, and it is extremely good, however when you stop using it your skin quickly returns to its old self. I just bought some more from EDS, as I'm thinking of having a green peel, and thought it would be a good prep? Good Luck with it. Cheers Jo |

The Blender helps the Retin A penetrate even DEEPER so it can work better that Retin A alone which has been PROVEN to help diminish wrinkles.
Yes because of cell turnover you must go through an ugly period but I have discovered a product to help anyone get through that.
If you get anything ReVive, please get the Revive Sensitif Clellular Repair. I started using it this week. (Call any Nieman Marcus and they will send you samples, alot of them if you wish, that's how much they believe in this product. I was really starting to feel uncomfortable with the Retin A. I am on .10. I started adding that and it has made it so much more comfortable. This product will help the Retin A work even better. It is helping your skin cells heal 40% FASTER. The Blender helps penetrate DEEPER and the this helps it all heal faster. Dr. Brown the founder of the co. is a retired plastic surgeon and would prescribe this for his patients after surgery or peels. So many women give up on Obagi once they hit the "peelie, uncomfortable" stage and this will get them through it.
" It is the most effective REPARATIVE cream available for fragile and dry skin. Using MAXIMUM amounts of cell generating Nobel Prize winning EGF (we all know about this stuff), Sensitif brings immediate improvement to sun-damaged and prematurely aged skin. Post-operative, recently lasered or chemically peeled skin heals up to 40% faster as EGF turns over top layers of dry skin to let under-layers of healthy skin bloom. Sensitif provides indispensable nourishment and won't irritate even the most delicate skin. SPF 15."
Like I said just call NM and get samples the SA are wonderful. Make sure you tell them you are on Retin A nightly.
for Obagi you don't have to buy the entire NuDerm Line. If you don't have Hyperpignentation issues, you can use your own PH balanced clenser and Toner. Just use the Blender and Retin A-(a lot of places online offer discounts) Also to help speed up peeling and flakiness, I'd recommend the Exfoderm (Exfoderm Forte is for Oily skin) I just added that this week and it has taken away alot of flakiness. That combined with the Cellular Repair. MY skin is looking fantastic. I can really see myslef not having to wear heavy foundation anymore when I'm done with the program. And your skin problems will NOT return as long as you wear a good sunblock the rest of your life. OF COURSE it will come back if you don't.

Thank you for sharing this information. I will call NM and ask for samples. Do you think this would work with Renova? I'm currently using Renova .05.
I've used the Obagi and retin-a in the past, and did get good results. Then I wanted to take a break from the retin-a and stopped using most of the Obagi products, just to try something new.
The Obagi cleanser and toner, in my opinion, are average. Nothing special. And I wouldn't recommend these for dry skin. I do like the blender, that I used with the retin-a. (I don't use it in conjunction with Renova) My favorite Obagi product is Clear for hyperpigmentation. I no longer use it daily...just every once in awhile when an ornery sun spot begins to reappear. Obagi Clear is the only product for hyperpigmentation I've used, so I'm certainly not an expert. It does work for me, and I will probably continue to purchase this, unless I read a rave reveiw on a different product on this forum! |

You know you can ask to try the Moisture Renewal. It has Glycolic acid in it for cell turn over. DO NOT use it if you are using any retinoids. BAD.
But use the MR in leu of that and the other products they recommend for you. The SA will ask you about your skin and come up with the perfect plan.
To make the samples of the serum work, just use it to "spot treat" and it will go a LONG way. Plus they sell the .20 size on Ebay all the time.
If you want to know what my regimen is, I'll post it. It is quite long. But I am so excited about the results, I look forward to it morning and night. :^) |

Another thing, I am saving my Moisture REnewal samples I got for after I am finished with my Obagi cycle.
I will be using the MR in place of the Obagi stuff and also adding the Creme Lustre. Any moisturizers are a no-no during Obagi since it slows down the results. The Creme Lustre has a really high amount of the EGF in it so that and the Glycolic, you'll get really good results. |

Hi All,
Well since my last post I have suffered a terrible breakout on both sides of my face, approx 6 or 7 large type sores on one side. My Obagi only arrived from EDS about 3 days ago, so I am actively trying to get things going. 2 problems though, in Oz at the moment we are have continuous 40 degree days (104F for the Americans), so that's not good for Obagi, also I am starting a new job in 4 days time. I am hoping that the redness and swelling will subside before then. I can feel my face starting to heat up, so I know that the peeling will start soon. I will try that serum that was suggested. I don't mind the peeling, but if I can avoid and still get the same results, then that would be very good.
As far as sunscreens, I currently use Ego tinted Daily Face 30+ Oil Free, but I find that it burns a little upon application and can still look a little oily although it's oil free. Does anyone use anything different that works for them? I need a 30+ due to the Australian sun. Anyway, I know that the Obagi will work because I've been there before, but it can be a bit uncomfortable at times.
Good luck to you all,
Cheers, Jo |

Did you order the Exfoderm? It exfoliates. That will help control the flaking as well. |

Thanx for that advice. I actually visited the obagi.com website for the official protocol on using the products and the am/pm guide to usage.
Use have made a good point, I just bought some Exfoderm and some 20% C serum. Hopefully this will help the process along.
I will keep you posted.
PS: Only 3 days and I'm already peeling!! This is better than other time that I've used Obagi.

Jo, I just ordered the 20% as well! I used my GC from EDS. I'm hoping I can tolerate the high % but I guess if I can take the .10 Retin A, I can handle this. We should probably stay away from the eye area with this strength. But I ahve so many Revive eye creams, I don't think I need it there anyway.
My face is really red this AM, so it will really start now. I'm glad I moved up to the .10. AND I'm glad I went out and bought the Exfoderm. I acutally ordered the Exfoderm and Clear about 7 weeks ago from that horrid 2cool2fast (name just boggles me ) and STILL have not received it. NEVER order from there. I am in the process of disputing it. BUt I had to replace what I bought because Iwas in the middle of thos program.
But my neck...Not using it there anymore. I will use the .50 only there. AND I called the SA back and told her to send some of the neck cream by Revive. Maybe that alone will help the delicate neck area for me.
Let's keep posting our results. It would be interesting. |
