I've been looking for ways to enhance the natural tones in my medium brown hair. After reading tons of rave reviews on Makeup Alley, I decided to try the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette line.
I purchased the Shine-release moisturizing shampoo and Light Reflecting conditioner. I found the shampoo very difficult to lather, and even harder to rinse out. I had to use quite a bit to get that "clean" feeling. The conditioner felt standard.
The end results were disappointing. Once dried, I felt as though I had residue on my head (even though I rinsed thoroughly). My hair was left looking limp and drab, without any noticeable shine or colour enhancement.
The worst part about this product for me was the smell! Practically everyone who reviewed it raved about how wonderful the scent was. These products have a VERY heavy gourmand foody scent that I can't quite place (chocolate? caramel?). The fragrance remained quite overpowering even after drying my hair, and quite frankly, made me queasy after awhile. I really loathe foody scents, but if you enjoy these kinds of fragrances, you might like this shampoo.
My final verdict: blech. I'm going back to my beloved fresh smelling Clairol Citrus Lift products. |

I had the same results with the John Frieda for blonde hair, it left my hair limp and lifeless too. The smell I can remember not being too pleasent at all and most infuratingly was the shampoo which did not want to lather at all, no matter how much I used.
The conditioner seemed to just coat my hair and stay there, I could not get the stuff to rinse off, it left a horrible coating.
In the end I had to go and get one of the build up remover shampoos.
The only John Frieda product that I would use again and that actually impressed me was the hairspray for blonde hair, it has the tiniest shimmery particles that make my hair look healthier and glossier when it catches the light. |

cheezwiz - have you looked into the Aveda clove conditioner? It actually has pigment to it and deepens your color a bit. I've been using it and LOVE it since my hair tends to lighten up at the tips. You might want to check out some reviews on MUA for it to see if it's what you're looking for. |

wow its too bad you ladies had a bad experience with John Freida. I personally liked the smell, and since i have dry and colored hair this line of haircare helped moisturize my hair without striping away the color. |

Glad it worked for you BC girl! Maybe your hair type is just right for this product. As for me, I'm sorry I succumbed to temptation.
I would be willing to keep it around as an "emergency-when-I-unexpectedly-run-out" shampoo were it not for the scent. Drives me absolutely batty! I only want to smell a desserty fragrance if I'm going to EAT it. I don't understand foody fragrances at all, but that's just my personal taste.
TAMgirl, I have tried the Aveda clove shampoo, but it was many years ago, & I can't remember if I liked it or not. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime. |

if any of you have problems with dry hair damaged hair from blow drying and colouring.
Try using Joico deep Conditioner called "mositure" i leave it in my hair for hours and when i was it out my hair is so shiny and soft.
I don't even need to use a straight iron after my hair becomes really managable.
Hope this helps! |

I've used the Radiant Red line. I rather like the color sealer but the shampoo and conditioner are dull and limp, just as the other posters described.
Sad.
I had high hopes. |

On the flip side, I tried only the John Freida shampoo and it really dried my hair out. It doesn't surprise me they made their conditioner so heavy. Aveda has a chamomile version for light brown/blonde hair that I really liked before I got dandruff. |
