Idealist, I am so glad that you have had some benefit from this approach. I had the same positive reaction...things that previously stung do not anymore, and I 100% attribute the improvement to barrier repair as well. |

Daler, I am so curious about the Lipowheat caps. I've read about them for a couple of years now but I've never taken the plunge.
Vaseline users, have you seen Alba's Un Petroleum Jelly? No petroleum products at all and it works exactly like Vaseline. |

I looked up the ingredients for Alba's Un Petroleum Jelly, there is lots of castor oil in it and I thought it could dry up the skin.. do u use it Myrnaloy?
I am currently doing a test, pure shea butter on one hand n vaseline on other.... shea butter feels more greasy, rest I dont know yet...
Thank you |

I do use it, albeit not regularly except for lips. I use it on the occasional raw skin area or as a barrier during a peel or something. My husband uses it to protect his skin when he uses the snow thrower. It doesn't dry the skin at all. My daughter uses it on her feet and hands. I once had to use it all over my face for a few consecutive days with no breaking out when my luggage was lost AND there was a blizzard that prevented leaving our hotel.
It gets great reviews although some people object to the castor oil having been hydrogenated. |

I started on these a few days ago. Also started on hyaluronic acid supplements. Will report back if I find any improvement, even on the dry skin on my legs etc.

Skinmedica Ceramide Treatment Creme is wonderful. I discovered this after a rec to use it post fractionated C02 laser and continue to use it.
It is my daily eye cream, and at night I use it after retin A. I have never had my under eye skin in better condition. When I feel my barrier is compromised, I use it on my entire face. It's really not a bad price, $64 for two ounces, and it lasts a long time.
From the Skinmedica site:
Contains the dynamic blend of patented growth factor blend TNS® and Ceramide technology to assist post-procedure skin
Helps to support epithelialization of post-procedure skin
Rapidly restores skin's barrier and moisture balance
Key Ingredients
Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media (TNS®) → A physiologically balanced, naturally secreted and stabilized growth factors blend that helps improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and overall skin tone and texture.
Hydroxypropyl Bispalmitamide MEA (Ceramide) → Skin barrier agent that promotes and maintains the moisture mantle of the skin and improves the skin texture by emollient and moisture-retaining effects.
Palmitoyl Oligopeptide → A synthetic tripeptide designed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 → A synthetic peptide designed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Ingredients
Water/Aqua/Eau, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxypropyl Bispalmitamide MEA, Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media, Dimethicone, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Cetearyl Glucoside, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Carboxymethyl Beta-Glucan, Squalane, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Isoceteth-20, Polysorbate 20, Butylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Carbomer, Tetrasodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben
|
^^ these are the main barrier repairing actives in that whole list:
Beta-Glucan, Squalane, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate
The rest either controversial, dont work or downright extraneous.
You could add niacinamide, biotin and N acetyl glucosamine to a lotion containing those 6 actives and have a better product. Leave out the parabens carbomer and other crap! |

Not sure which thread to post it on Daler, but just a quick note that its been a few weeks and thus far no results apparent from the Lipowheat or Hyaluronic acid supplements, on my face or body, but I probably need to wait a couple months before seeing real results.

I've been using Skinactives ELS lately and really been liking it - my skin is definitely smoother, and I use it under another random oil-based moisturizer.
Today I picked up Hydraluron from the drugstore, so I'm going to try that under the ELS at night - we'll see how that goes. |

Update on the Hyraluron - I don't think it works for me.... it seems to irritate my skin.
So I'm sticking with either ELS or Cerave for now. |

For those who might be interested in a quick and easy;
DIY Barrier Repair Lotion Bars
2oz Shea or Cocoa Butter (or combine the two)
2oz Beeswax
1oz ELS (Every Lipid Serum)
1oz Soybean Oil (lots of vit E, linoleic acid & phytosterols)
In a glass measuring cup melt the beeswax completely, then add the butter which should melt pretty quickly, remove from your heat sorce and add/stir in the ELS.
Immediately pour the melted mixture into your receptacle of choice to solidify. (Don't move it once you've poured!) It will solidify in an hour or so.
Silicone ice cube trays make cute little bars. You can unmold them, put a few in your bathroom, and put the rest in a freezer bag and just pull them out as needed. Plenty of soap molds available too. (I keep mine in a cute covered glass jar in the bathroom, and the one I'm using in a soap container.)
Recipe can be doubled, tripled or whatever.. The important thing to remember is this;
1 part hard butters
1 part beeswax
1 part liquid oils
No preservative needed with an all oil product |

Kassy, how do you use these? Are they used like soap and you wash them off? Or do you rub them on your skin?
Sounds like a great recipe and good for gifts too. |

It's a hard lotion bar Shasta, and it melts just enough (with body heat) when you rub it on your skin. Just put it here and there, then rub it around. |
