Oily Eyelids!! ARGH!!

Hello all. I hope someone has a tip for me on this one. I suffer from oily EYELIDS!! It is absolutely impossible for me to wear eyeshadow. Within just a couple of hours it's all greasy and creased. I purchased a product from Benefit called F.Y. Eye that is supposed to be a serious eyeshadow primer and prevent creasing. When I first started using, it actually dried out my eyelids! To the point of slight flakiness. And now it doesn't seem to do anything.
I don't wear eyeshadow much, so that part is not a huge deal, but I get major shine on my eyelids every day that is NOT cute. I get a little oil slick in the crease and it's just a bad situation. Rolling Eyes

Any ideas??

Oily eyelids..oh yes I know just how you feel!!!
The best eye shadow primer I have found is Urban Decay Primer Potion, you need the tiniest amount and eye shadow lasts all day, before this I used MAC paints but the Primer Potion beats them hands down.

I thought I was the only person to have oily eye lids. I tried several things and nothing has helped so looking forward to the replies on this post. Maybe I should try the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I'm new to this forum and expect to find many helpful hints on skin care. Smile

I know this sounds crazy, but I get oily eyelids when I'm dehydrated (i.e. after "imbibing" too much) or when I haven't had enough sleep. Have you thought about dietary causes or fatigue as a factor? Just wondering if there's something you can do from the inside to help the outside.

I find that the StimuColl-C Intensive Eye Serum by Pure Skin Formulations has helped my extra oily eyelids. After it "sets" for a few seconds, I blot it with a tissue & then pat a little powder on. I'm still only good for a few hours - but at least I can wear shadow when I go out now! Smile

I was just about to suggest MAC Paints, but now I'm desperate to try the Urban Decay stuff!

Once you've found a good primer, you could always use the MAC Paints over the top of it. There are some truly gorgeous colours and it's so easy to apply. Stays put pretty well, too.

I too have oily eyelids.

I use Mary Kay Triple Action Eye Enhancer under my shadow. It works great. The best thing for me is that it doesn't leave a heavy white film that distorts the color of my shadow or looks cakey. I can even wear it w/o shadow when I just want to wear eyeliner, which will also smear if worn alone.

Majorb, I agree there are some beautiful MAC paint colours, I like to use the Urban Dacay first then the paints over the top Very Happy

I've always heard that that milk of magnesia thing helps soak up oil when you use it on your face.. wonder if you can mess some into eyeshadow for the eyelids as well?

i dust kaolin clay as a primer before using any foundation, it is similar to the milk of magnesia routine some members use. you could try dusting some of that around the eye lids and pressing excess off with tissue.

there's a few varieties of kaolin, i think the grey/white one would work best rather thank green one.

I have oily eyelids so I know exactly what you're going through. I've seen Carekate advise using Milk of Magnesia on your lids to reduce oilyness. I haven't tried this yet, but what I usually do is put a little foundation on my lids (I use Dr Hauschka) and then I coat it with quite a bit of loose powder, then I apply my shadow over this. It helps A LOT. It isn't perfect, but I get much more wear this way.

Mine are OILY too and Urban Decay, Lumene and MAC paints all work for me, UD is the best.

MAC paints if you like the opaque look. And if that doesn't work,...just blot with tissue everytime you go to the washroom. Sometimes the most obvious solution works the best.

Wow, it's so good to know that I'm not the only one with this issue!
Just this past weekend I made up my frist batch of ACV toner, with the ylang ylang EO for oily skin help. After I swipe my face with the cottonball, I very carefully go over my eyelids. I figured that if it helps the rest of my face to not produce so much oil, perhaps it'll help on the eyelids as well.
It's too soon to see if this will have any effect, but I will let you guys know.
And thanks for the Urban Decay recommendation, I will definitely look into that as a primer for the times I do wear eyeshadow!

Yes, it works! I apply a thin layer of MoM to my entire face, including my eyelids, as a mattifier/primer before applying my makeup. After that, I sweep on a bit of the Urban Decay Primer Potion and for the first time in my life I'm able to wear eye shadow and not have it crease or slide completely off by 9 o'clock in the morning!

OH MY GOSH! I did a quick search on the internet last week because I was frustrated with my oily eyelids and my eye shadow not lasting and creasing. WOW - there's others frustrated too. I read the posts about the Urban Decay Primer and thought "what the heck I've tried just about everything else although I've never heard of this line". I had my doubts because each persons skin is different. I received the purple potion bottle yesterday and already today (1 use) has been amazing. I'm a believer. Thanks for your honest posts.

Oily eye lidded ladies! YOU CAN wear your favorite eye shadows again. Just blot throughout the day. Thats all you can do. You cannot go thru a day and NOT at least do SOME THING to get the shine off anywhere on your skin. Every time I go into the washroom I BLOT, and than I look fresh again. Primers are ok but I find you still have to smooth things out a bit sometime during the day.

I too am victim to oily eyelids. I've tried SO many things because I just have to wear my beautiful eyeshadows.

My only way to actually wear eye shadow and on MOST days not have it crease is to put a base of......okay it's not the best.........and you are going to think I'm crazy.......cuz not many people on here like this product line.......but it really does work.......

CLINIQUE STAY-MATTE powder in 'Stay Neutral'.

I don't even want to know what's in it 'cause it works darn it.

I don't really have oily lids per se, but my shadow always slips and creases anyway. So maybe I do have oily lids and I never noticed. Laughing

Anyway, I recently got some Too Faced Second Base from an MUA swap, and I like it more than I expected to. It doesn't feel dry or drying at all - in fact, it feels kind of oily - but it still helps keep my shadow nicely in place. So if UD winds up being too drying for you, you could always give the Too Faced a try.

FYI they have two versions, First Base and Second Base - the one I like, Second, is the lemony yellow color.

I’ve got the same problem with eyeshadow not lasting and wondered whether it’s my eyelids being oily or maybe the shape of my eyes, which are rather deep set, which causes the shadow to crease almost immediately? In the past I always applied liquid foundation and powder under the shadow but it made no difference whatsoever.

The last six months or so I’ve been applying Burts Bees concealer, topped with Alima MMU, then the shadow and it does seem to last longer. Of course now I hear the Burts Bees concealer has been discontinued. Of course... grrrrr!
Maybe, and I'm hoping, it's the Alima that's helping, as I've found it really seems to reduce the shine on the rest of my oil-slick face.
