I got a sample of CareKate's Pearl cream with my order yesterday, and I wore it to bed, with a layer of regular moisturizer on top. (My skin felt too dry otherwise.) Anyway, I think it really is anti-inflammatory because this morning, these two nasty, underground spots on my cheek are so diminished they have almost disappeared. |

Carrie got a lot of winners, but it is really hard to get a hold of her products since she got limited internet access and her mailbox is full. How do you all get to buy her products? I think Carrie should quit her job and start selling her products full time and open up a web store either on Ebay or on EDS. Who thinks so, too? |
I send a list but assume she won't get to it for a week. And yeah, it would be nice if Carrie had a website and more internet time. Hey Carrie - in lieu of a website, what about Ebay? Of course we'd prefer hoarding your products for EDS members - but that would be a great place to post products - and for people to order without having a website. |

Hi PocoLoco,
Glad that Carrie's version of my Pearl Paste helped. That's what I developed it for ... and was amazed at the anti-inflamatory properties of pearl.
I don't know how dry your skin is normally, but that tightening sensation is often misunderstood as being "drying" ... it isn't though. If you let the product just sit on your face for a few minutes, your natural skin oils will blend/marry with the pearl paste and you're skin will feel wonderful. However that tightening is actually your skin tightening ... not drying.

Hmm! I will have to try it again, then. It almost felt like a thin layer of egg white that had dried and was shrinking...
I'll do it again and see if it goes away after 15 minutes. |

Hi PocoLoco,
That's exactly how my friend described how it felt when she put on the Rich Pearl Paste I made her ... and it turned out that she was using WAY too much.
Just a teeny tiny bit is all that necessary. My friend suggested it was the size of a small pea ... and that should be enough to do all your face and neck.
That's another thing ... don't forget to put it on your neck. It's often the neck that shows age before your face ... so I use my Pearl Paste every morning and evening all over my face and neck ... and I even use it on my eye area. It really firms up the area right under the brow. I often use a drop of Rosehip seed oil at the corners and under my eye after applying the Pearl Paste to that area, however.
To give you a "rule of thumb". When I send out samples of my original Pearl Paste ... I send a generous half-teaspoonful ... which should last about a week, if not longer ... [depending upon the size of face & neck etc].
I start with dipping my spatula in and getting just a bit on the corner ... and I start applying this to my damp face. Sometimes I need a little more to cover my entire face, neck and eye area ... but I just pick up miniscule amounts from the jar.
If you look at the my original recipe that Carekate posted in the Pearl Paste thread, you can see that the pearl is highly concentrated in the final mix. If you use too much, you risk not only wasting the product but getting white residue patches.
A very little bit of my Pearl Paste goes a very very long way.
Think of it as you would oil. You would just put a drop of oil on a finger and then rub two of your fingers together to spread it ... then use that one drop for your entire face. The same sort of theory goes for Pearl Paste as well.
Good luck

Thanks, Mary! And you're right...I did have some "pearls of residue" show up a few minutes after I applied the cream. Little dots of white stuff. |

I was looking at their website and added 1oz pearl podwer and 1 oz silk powder to my cart to test ($13) what the ordering minimum was and it said they do have a $15 minimum. So I went back to find something to get me to that $15 mark and found 1oz zinc oxide-zinc coat for $2.95. Would that be ok to mix with the pearl and silk powders? Also, would it provide enough protection so I wouldn't have to use an additional sunscreen? |

Hi Sundew,
I thought the minimum was $15!
In my Silk & Pearl Primer that I use ... the one I sent to Carrie for her mom last July ... I put both zinc oxide and titanium dixoide in it so that it would have sunscreen properties.
I don't know if it's enough ... but since mine was a primer and since I usually have it covered with Mineral Foundation which also has those two things in it ... I figured I was safe and haven't had any problems.
I'll look to see if there is some guideline as to what percentage you need for effective sunscreen protection.
The proportion of my Silk & Pearl Primer is
2 parts silk
1 part pearl
1/3 part zinc oxide
1/3 part titanium dioxide
HTH

Thanks Mary! I probably won't try this for awhile. But it is definitely an itch that is going to have to be scratched at some point! Right now I'm not using MMU and would like a finishing powder that has a little coverage. The only way I would try MMU again is in conjunction with this silk pearl dust (every MMU I have tried ends up looking insane on my oily skin after few hours). Who knows, if this new makeup I just ordered ends up being a dud I might have to try making this sooner rather than later |

This is my wish at the moment: for Carrie to suddenly have more time on her hands to answer my pm (and all of the others in the line up before and after me ), to finally get to place an order for her Silk Pearl Dust, and to have sunscreen powder included so I don't have to deal with yucky sunscreen goop on my face everyday. I could touch up and look great and get some added protection during the day... sigh... wish I had the faith to make these things myself. |

Oriana, I too am waiting for carekate products, so I know just how you feel!^-^ But in the meantime, why don't you order some samples of mineral make up? They also include sunscreen powder and are easy to touch up--- since I started wearing mineral makeup, I don't wear any lotion sunscreen on my face! My brand of choice is Alima (www.alimacosmetics.com). The colors are very skin-true and the texture is so fine that my skin looks airbrushes when I wear it. HTH, and hang in there, Carrie will get to you before you know it!^-^ |

manslayerliz, that a great idea... now why didn't I think of it - because I'm learning and reading so much here about other products I haven't even gotten around to researching mineral makeup yet. For some reason I thought it was difficult to apply and did not always sync with some other actives/products. And damn I just bought an expensive new bottle of liquid foundation
The Alima sounds great. Since I have this liquid foundation I need to use up, and it will take a while, do you know if it's possible to use the Alima for touch ups during the day, on top of my foundation - using it as a dry powder? That's kind of why I liked the idea of having the sunscreen powders incorporated with the Silk Pearl Dust - one less product to purchase, one less product to carry around with me (I have a small purse).
Thanks for the suggestion! |

| Hi again Oriana! I think the mineral powder would be perfect for touch ups over your regular makeup. Alima sells a flocked sponge that comes in its own case which is very portable. Actually, I was always intimidated my mineral makeup so I never bothered trying it out, but then I went through a phases where I suffered from terrible acne, and my regular foundation and concealer just weren't giving me the coverage I needed, so what I did at first was I applied my regular makeup, then I dabbed on mineral makeup over the spots where I needed extra coverage, and also for touch ups. It worked great, but I came to love it so much that I just ditched my drugstore make up and now I just use mineral makeup (better for my skin, too!^-^). HTH! |

I have a question about Pearl Powder versus Pearl Paste/Cream, that being, which should I use? I don't currently wear makeup but do put on sunscreen (Bioderma AKN) that dries mostly matte but still leaves a bit of shine on my T zone. Would Pearl Powder on top help to mattify things and control oil during the day? Or should I use Pearl Paste/cream underneath my sunscreen instead?
Or both?
I need/want (is there a difference?) to place an order for more goodies from Carrie but need some help figuring out which of these (or both) I should use.
Thanks!

Hi Priscilla,
I'm not Carrie ... but since I came up with the Pearl Paste and my own Silk & Pearl Primer and have been using both for a year ... I hope I can help.
I am not familiar with your sunscreen ... but I would think that the easiest would be the powder applied after your sunscreen.
I know that some sunscreens react oddly with products applied before the sunscreen ... and while Pearl Paste [or Carrie's Pearl Cream] might create a "hostile environment" for your sunscreen.
Do you put on a moisturizer before applying your sunscreen? If so ... you could probably use the Pearl Paste. If not ... then I'd suggest the powder. It will help take the shine off that T-zone ... but shouldn't interfere with your sunscreen.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Mary! I sometimes put on moisturizer before my sunscreen--it really depends on the weather: in the summer, I don't need to but in the winter (now), I moisturize with oil (emu, jojoba, or a new mix I have from IFeelPretty) + HA serum. It has gotten cold enough where I live that I also need to moisturize my face again some time during the day. I'm thinking that a light dusting of the powder will be better, too....then in summer when my skin is oilier, I can think about trying the Pearl paste/cream as an oil-controlling moisturizer.
PM me your formulations when you start selling. Thanks!

So I'm a liar... I waited just a little over a week lol I ordered everything to make my own silk pearl dust (first DIY)! I also ordered some samples from Alima. Now I just need to track down some amber oil so I can scent it
I'm so excited! Thanks again Mary! |

NEWSFLASH: New information on how to contact CAREKATE!!!
Ok, everyone, I have some exciting news!
I've been in contact with Carrie, and she has advised me that, due to the many problems she's had with the PMs sent to her through EDS being lost, not going through, and the long delays people have experienced in waiting to hear from her, she has gone ahead and set up an internet-based e-mail account specifically for us to use in contacting her! Yay!
If you want to get in contact with Carrie, please send her an e-mail at:
carekate AT hotmail DOT com
Obviously, there are no spaces in her e-mail address; I've written it like this so that she can avoid getting unsolicited junk mail from spambots. So, if you decide to share her e-mail address or repost it for others on the forum, please write it just like this, NOT in the traditional, correct format. She set up this account for our use, so please let's all help her avoid encountering any problems with having to wade through junk e-mail to get to our orders!
Also, please be sure to put some sort of easy for her to recognize reference in the subject line, e.g., "CareKate - Order" or "MemberName from EDS" so the message won't get filtered out as spam.
Lastly, she has updated her product guide to include instructions on how to contact her and/or place an order. If you are interested in obtaining that, please send your requests to me at the e-mail below and I will send it to you as soon as I can:

Hello ladies, is there a good source for becoming a good DIY chemist? I would like to combine the silk and pearl powders, but don't know if just a mixed powder formula, or some sort of "paste" would work the best. Also, knowing what other ingredients would be complimentary.
A good resource for beginners would be helpful! |

Start here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=11902 It's an indexed list of recipes submitted by EDS members and it contains lots of references on (natural) ingredients, as well.
The actual recipes for both the Pearl-Silk Dust and "Pearl Paste" can be found in this link: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=17656&highlight=pearl+paste
