For daily sun protection:

Do you prefer using a facial moisturizer with an SPF (such as the one below), or do you prefer wearing a separate sunscreen over your facial moisturizer?

And why? Which do you suppose would be more effective?

Hmm..different person has different needs.
I don't use moisturizer, but I use Finacea gel (thin lotion texture) for treating clogged pores, then top up with (currently) Elemental Herbs SPF33 (zinc oxide sunscreen).

I have normal skin though. Zinc oxide sunscreen is the only SS that won't make my face oily throughout the day (I really mean matte face all day)

I have tried a moisturizing chemical sunscreen (RoC brand), it is ok but is expensive for 40ml in local drugstore here. Whilst Zinc based SS is cheaper (must buy it online though) - and is healthier.

So yeah, I do personally think a standalone sunscreen is better.

Plus, we need to use 1.25ml of sunscreen anyway, it is a LOT.
hence, skipping moisturizer saves my time.

fyi, finacea gel dries completely without trace (and it dries on seconds!)

But I can see the problem for dry skin folks...
Zinc SS is -mostly- drying...and white cast!

What skin type is yours? dry?
