I LOVE the LM tightliners...I have every (wearable, for me) color. (Espresso, Mahogany Brown, Bleu Marine and Charcoal Grey). I use it instead of eyeshadow, to look very natural, but still brighten my eyes. Great stuff! |

This summer I bought the Laura Mercier Kohl Extreme pencil for tightlining. I was afraid to even try it because it is very dark , and I am fair and blonde. The visiting makeup artist from LM was there and put it on me and wow! I was afraid I'd look sort of tarty, but it gave a very natural look. You do not see the line and are left with the overall impression of fuller lashes ( it fills in along the lash line where there are little gaps) and more defined eyes. The effect was so good that when I got into the car to go to lunch with a friend she immediately asked what I'd done to my lashes.
This is my first post. I hope I did it right! |

I tried the LM tight liner a couple years ago...I like to use cake eyeliner to tight line and to actually line the eye normally as well with a paintbrush and the Laura Mercier one just wasn't opaque and dark enough for me, it was really rather weak for being the darkest shade offered. I've switched to La Femme cake eyeliner for tight line/ eye liner, I think it's actually superior and certainly cheaper. The presentation, packaging, is much better on the LM but it was too light, thin, a formula for me. I like a very dramatic eye so maybe if you're into a more natural or no makeup look this would work well for you.

I agree that the LM tight liners are more like a water paint than something else. Michelle Phan of the internet makeup tutorial fame says she likes gel liners. |

I am using a Bobbi Brown gel liner to tightline with very good results. |

Rly? I used to use BB gel liner but its way harsh looking for me. I dont like that look but YMMV.
Have you tried UD 24/7 Glide-On pencil in "Perversion"? Its an überblack intense liner but not the sharp hard line of a gel liner. Once its on, it stays and doesnt smudge when I tightline with it, but I have to keep my eyes *OPEN* for a moment til it dries down. |

I only use browns since I have very fair skin and just do the inside of the top lid, so that keeps it more natural looking. But I didn't like the same liner when I used it above my lashes because a larger amount (as in thicker line) did make it look like too much. |

Hi Bethany,
I too use the BB gel liner for tight lining now and think it is the best for this purpose. I put mine on this morning and it's still on with no smudging.
I've tried the UD pencil mentioned above, but found it too soft, crumbly, and it didn't last. Once the Bobbi Brown gel is on and set, it has excellent staying power. Of course, you have to have that sweet Ultra fine eye-lining brush too! It's one of my favorite brushes in my collection since you can do a fine or thicker line with it. Michelle Phan recommends that if you are new to tight-lining, to practice short strokes with the brush on the inside of your arm and then once you can get nice line that way, you're ready to tight-line your eyes. I have fair skin and green eyes and usually use a dark brown shade like caviar, or twilight (a midnight blue).Tight-lining should be close enough in color to just make your lashes look thicker, Also, it's fine to dot it in at first if you can't get the line right, then smudge the dots. HTH someone. |

I'm a huge fan of tight-lining because whenever I tried to put eyeliner on the top of my lashes I could never get it straight plus it made me look "hard". Tight-lining gives a much softer, more professional look - and it's easier to do. I used to use a gel liner but I recently purchased the new Sephora pencil liner and it's even easier to apply. It's quite soft but has great staying power. |
I've finally made the decision to buy this today! I can't wait and I've been debating on what colour to get for blue eyes.
There is grey, charcoal, blue and brown.
Any suggestions? |

hi skincare,
Which brands are you considering?
Depending on the shade of blue of your eyes, you can wear charcoal, grey or brown very nicely. Tight-lining is a technique that makes your lashes look fuller, so one close in color to your own lash color is most natural look. I have green eyes so I love to use a dark purple because that's my contrasting color.
You will have lots of fun experimenting with tight-lining and colors.
One good on line person is Michelle Phan. She shows how to roll your lid back for easier access, and gives you other tips. |

Hi
I was going to buy LM brand.
I've heard that blue is a nice pop of colour for blue eyes. |

Marine Bleu is wonderful for blue eyes - I recommend it. |

I bought it! SA was suggesting that I might be interested in the new gunmetal smoke. After he applied marine blue, I noticed how dark it is on and whether it was the marine blue or gunmetal smoke, it would be dark that you can't tell what colour it is.
Today will be my first try to put it on my own.
BTW, I had to mention that I saw Justin Bieber shopping at the same store I was in to buy LM tightliner.
He looks like a cute little boy who is small framed and looked immature wearing a baseball cap. |

I love the Laura Mercier line, I heard they are owned by their parent company Amway which produces premium vitamins and supplements too. Their tinted moisturizer is one of my favorite, I would love to try their eye liner if it is as good as the rest of their line. |
