I posted this topic on the Skin Care and Make Up forum but no one clicked on it. My post was about microbeads polluting the oceans and in New York they're trying to ban microbeads in cosmetics. The micorbeads are microscopic particles of polyethylene now being found in fish and other sea creatures which isn't a good thing at all.
I've used mircobeads in many skin products. They really sluff off the dead skin and make the skin soooo smooth. I love them but now might be looking for an alternative.
I've also read about mineral powders being inhaled by people over time and getting in their lungs. The finer the milling of the powders the greater chance of getting it into the lungs. It seems that you don't know it's being inhaled because it's so micro small.
One other thing I read (this was several years ago) was that most the creams we put on our hair, faces and body ends up going down the drain of our sinks or showers and ends up in the water system.
I don't use emu oil because they have to kill the emu so I use jojoba oil or argon oil but I don't know what to do about the other cosmetic pollution problems.
What price beauty? How far do we want to go to look nice? How much carbon footprint should we make using cosmetics?

Hi Tiptoedancer, I did read your post in the Skin Care forum before you reposted here in the DIY forum but since I don't DIY I didn't comment because when it comes to topical products, I am all thumbs.
But your post did make me wonder whether that is what is used in all physical exfoliants like say the scrub in Carolyn's Facial Formulas and so I looked it up. Since this is not my department, I was going to leave the topic well alone but since I see you are asking for suggestions and you don't have a problem with jojoba, I thought I'd share a link to CFF Cleansing Scrub info in case the beads used in it may be an alternative that could work for you for you: http://www.carolynsfacialfitness.com/cleansing-scrub |
