I have pink scarring on my face that's been there for a few years now. I want to do something about it because it hasn't changed. Is it too late? What can I try to drastically fade these pink marks??

I don't think it's too late. I'd suggest a L-AA vitamin C serum and AHA used at different times of the day. Go easy if you get irritated.

Retin A has also faded some of my freckle spots.

You might also want to look into Obaji. I've not used it, but they have a method that is supposed to work well on pigmented spots.

Thanks ShastaGirl for the help! Maybe I ask what specific brands/products you recommend for the vitamin c serum and AHA? Also what retin a did you use and at what strength? Would you recommends ambi fade cream/hydroquinone (as long as I don't overdo it since I know it's not so good for you)?

I did not know Obagi is good for pigmentation at all. Do you know which products from their line help with that? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to do this right lol

For Vitamin C, I make a variation of Kassy's recipes that are posted here on EDS. If you're not into into DIY, either Skinceuticals C, E, Ferulic (expensive) or Cosmetic Skin Solutions (cheaper) are good options.

On the AHA, I used a Glytone product. I found that Vit C, Retin A and AHA was too much for my skin, so I stopped the AHA. I'd recommend starting with a 10% glycolic acid cream. There are a few different brands out there now.

Retin A I use is .05% from the Indian pharmacies. I get lots of flaking, so only use it 3x a week.

I've never used hydroquinone myself, so can't comment. Maybe someone else on EDS can jump in on this.

The Obaji protocol for pigmentation is Nu Derm. I think there is a thread here on it somewhere...

Oh and be sure to always use sunscreen. The AHAs and Retin a can make your skin susceptible to sun damage which will make those faded spots show up again!

I also used mandelic acid, which is another AHA. Mine came from MUAC and was 25%. This is something you could use just weekly and over time it'll help fade marks. There are also some daily use creams out there from Garden of Wisdom and others.

I'd pick one AHA and start with it. Give your skin a week or two to adjust and see how it goes.

Adding to the comments above, if the marks are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, I believe niacinamide is supposed to be helpful for that.

Also, Helichrysum is good for fading scars.

Thanks havana8 - never heard of Helichrysum before. Is it the oil and how do you apply it?

Yes! The essential oil. The blend I've used is the 10% dilution in rosehip oil from Nature's Gift: https://www.naturesgift.com/product/helichrysum-10-in-rose-hip-seed-oil-5-ml/ HTHs!

Hi Havana8, have you used this to fade pink scarring? How has it worked out for you?

Hi pokerlady888. I've used it for newer, pinker scars and for an older white scar. HTHs!

I have a twenty year old surgical scar that is still pink, believe it or not. It's on my abdomen so not a problem. I just assumed it would always be pink.

Why don't you try IPL photofacial if you are looking for something other than just products? I've had exactly the same concern for years and a friend of mine recommended it for me. I just got my third one done a couple days ago and began to see some changes. It could be little too early for me to tell but the scars on my face are actually fading away.
