So I have tried using products with niacinamide in them and every time i do, within a weeks time, I develope a bumpy rash all over my face with tiny pimples. This happened to me with the CeraVe PM lotion as well as the Skinacentuals Hydrating b5 GEl. Now, I know niacinamide is vitamin b3nand the Skinacentuals contains vitamin b5, but for some reason, I got the same exact reaction/rash/breakout from both products.
However, I've been using the Nia24 skin strenghting complex for three weeks now and have had no reaction. This product contains niacin, which is something that goes into your skin and converts into niacinamide. But I still haven't had any negative effects thus far.
So my question is, has anyone had similar reactions with these ingredients? I would think if my skin reacts to niacinamide or b5, wouldn't it react to niacin as well? |

Hi Ashley,
I am a big fan of niacinamide and find it quite helpful for my skin. However, different formulations can have different impact on people.
I used Cerave and know what it contains, and I have checked Skinceuticals Hydrating b5, and it seems their common ingredient is Hyaluronic acid. Maybe there is something else they have in common. Maybe you have reaction to some preservative (or several of them), Phenoxyethanol does have bad reputation (there is article about it on truthinaging site).
Then again, it is possible that even if you have reaction to niacinamide, you don't experience it with Nia24 because it doesn't have preservatives...
I know this probably doesn't sound helpful, but I think you need to figure out what works for you, so perhaps you should experiment some more, I don't think you can make any type of conclusion based on your results with these 3 products... |
