H All, I'm trying to find really clean skin care suggestions.
By this, I mean ingredient conscious, natural beauty - I don't want nything with parabens, propylene/butylene/other/glycols, PEG's etc.
Just clean and organic skincare and especially interested in those smaller boutique brands.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated! |

Lately, I have been using Eminence Organics again. Their Tropical Vanilla SPF is the ONLY spf that both protects my dry/sensitive skin and moisturizes it. No SPF does both for me and I am grateful because I have an auto-immune disease. My skin is oft compromised by medication and the environment.
Do not be deterred by their prices. Their products are extremely concentrated and, per the company's advice, I have to mix in a few drops of water to lighten them up. One jar of 2oz product will easily last over three months.
Buynaturalskincare.com lists their products and ingredients. I live by their Tropical Vanilla SPF, Stone Crop wash, and Dermafoliant. All natural and effective. |

Have you thought about making your own products? That's one way of ensuring things are clean and chemical free.

There is NO really natural product at all, unless you make by yourself EVERY DAY. No aseptic means go moldy in days, no company will manufacture that kind of products. |

Cosmetics are just like clothes, they are both unnatural, people invent them for better living. the later keep us warm and the former keep our skin moist. If your skin is not allergic to some ingredients, no need to avoid them.
Find a product suitable for your skin is better than focus on the absolute clean product in my opinion. |

Cosmetics may be unnatural but skincare isn't necessarily. In this day and age of living and with our life styles the skin isn't able to act like it did in our younger years so needs help with things like exfoliation etc.
As to using natural versus synthetic there are numerous people who feel that using synthetic is more harmful than good because it encourages reactions from the body that aren't necessarily in harmony.

You can and many people do make lots of products for use every day and with great success using natural ingredients without aseptic or alcohol for example and depending on whats used, and how its stored and where - it does't mean it will go mouldy.

If the product has water in it, it needs a preservative. If you don't want a preservative, go with products that are 100% oils. I have a skincare line (Sweet Prana) and I use phenoxyethanol at a very low percentage (.1%). Eminence use Sodium Benzoate, which, when combined with other ingredient such as vitamin c, creates Benzene (10 on the EWG - a proven toxin). Even Tata Harper, a very high end "natural" line, uses benzyl benzoate, which scores high on EWG as well.
I'm not concerned about a little phenoxyethanol/caprylyl glycol mixture in my products because it's been proven harmless in such a small concentration and it's the only synthetic in there.
Just don't be fooled by the word "organic". If it's part of the name of the line, it's only that. I'd be more concerned with fillers and fairy dusting and as my chemist has made clear - if the products are white, there's not much in the way of actives in them.
Interesting conversation. Even the "natural" cosmetic industry will lead you astray! |
