I am not sure where I should have posted this but I need help. I am just over 60 and have good skin BUT my hair is miserable. I have had major illnesses including cancer that caused hair loss but have been reasonable healthy for the past 5 years. My hair is very thin (can see scalp) and straw-like. It is light brown with very little grey but it makes me look much older than I am! I have tried minoxidol, oil packs and some other hair tonics with very little success. I use micro-needling on my face and this works well. I have done a little bit on my scalp but not consistently.
If anyone has had success with lasers, electric stimulation or anything else please let me know.
I have tried wigs but an over that. Also tried hair extensions but they do not help near the scalp and are hard on the hair. This really has been depressing me and I hope that someone can help. I have received some suggestions from people here and will try anything.

Have you tried supplements, for instance MSM-1000 mgs 3 times a day with Vitamin C 1000mgs 3 times a day.
Also Emu Oil (applied topically) may prevent or treat Hair Loss (it is claimed that Emu Oil "awakens" Hair Follicles that are in their "resting-phase" (due to specific Fatty Acids in Emu Oil): - In one study (involving mice) over 80% of Hair Follicles that were in their "resting-phase" were "awoken" and began growing Hair after two weeks of once-a-day topical application of Emu Oil.
Retin-A (applied topically to the Scalp) may stimulate Hair Growth and may retard Hair Loss (by stimulating Hair Follicles and by increasing Blood Circulation to Hair Follicles |

I'm sorry you are going through this. You might consider high frequency, in addition to a topical or tonic. I have recently started using high frequency to address some skin concerns and thinning patches of hair that seem due with the aging process, and while I haven't seen results yet on my scalp (it is too early) I was somewhat mortified a few days ago to realize how much peach fuzz had developed on my face after some weeks of high frequency therapy. Not any ol' peach fuzz but thick and long fine hairs. Upon closer inspection I noticed that my eyebrows were longer and thicker as well. I have pretty sparse eyebrows naturally.
My hair does feel fuller and cleaner since starting the treatments. I would hope if it works on my face, it will at least produce some results on my head. The before and afters I have seen from practitioners and clients are pretty compelling. I would think it would only enhance the effects of any topicals you might choose to employ. |

Violet: What high frequency device do you use? Does it have a 3 prong plug? I have read that microcurrent could also help but have not used the Nuface on my head?

Sharky, it is a D'arsonval high frequency wand. It comes with several interchangeable glass bulbs filled with either argon or neon gas (mine is neon); one of the attachments is a comb, designed specifically to address scalp issues. The prong is just a standard two prong plug.
The device can be found pretty much everywhere, or some version of it. I believe there is a thread on high frequency technology here on EDS.
I think it would be pretty hard to use the NuFace on your scalp, but I know there are LED combs/brushes that are supposed to help stimulate hair growth. |

I'll toss my bid in with Violet on the High Frequency..They all come with a comb attachment.
I haven't really had a problem with my hair but it use to be extremely thick and has thinned out a bit as I've gotten older. High Frequency brought back the luscious thick hair of my youth. Reviews seem to bear out its success with healthier hair.
You also might want to try a gelatin or collagen supplement. They claim to do many things but hair and nails seem to have the most successful results. |

Porcini mushrooms, rosemary, and wild blueberries -
not all at once, though you can make a broth out of porcini mushroom powder and add a bit of rosemary extract.
Castor oil applied to the scalp works for hormone-related hair loss. |

No it doesn't I tried that! Caster Oil makes the hair look thicker because it soaks into it, but scientifically speaking it does little to nothing for hair growth at all. Its an old wives tale that I wish were true!

Another vote for D'arsonval high frequency wand.
And also recommendation for scalp massage, relatively aggressive. A bit more hear sheds at the beginning but you'll notice a halo soon

This is becoming a common problem occurring during the aging, castor oils can be the greater option for thickening, but make sure you consult a dermatologist before using them. Do not worry, this can be treated with ease by taking regular treatments.
Apart from that using wands with high frequency based on your skin and hair type is also a wise choice, consult and then start using them for getting the desired result. |
