Hi everyone,
I have just mixed up my first several small batches of my DIY product.
I purchased from SAS and mixed up:
Matrixyl
natural peptides
Sea kelp Bioferment
Alpha Lipoic Acid
CoQ10
First batch I mixed up the Matrixyl, peptides & SKB into canvas cream...the smell was fine just not emmoiliant enough for me. Made the mistake of adding Shea Butter and then it began balling up on me. Onto the next experiment
My next batch I added the Matrixyl, natural peptides PLUS the Q10 and ALA into some Nivea Visage (SKB too drying). Well, I'm not so happy that the nivea has petrolatem (sp)but was anxious to see how the mix would fare. It mixed up and applied fine but after I had closed and reopened the jar there was this brief, RANK smell that escaped. I mean like bad eggs. But when I smelled the actual cream there was no smell. I thought maybe the nivea scent didn't mix well w/ the actives. So once again I started a new batch.
This time I used CeraVe. Love this lotion. I mixed the same 4 ingredients (ala, q10, mtrixyl & peptides) and the same RANK smell appears when the jar has been closed then re-opened.
Anyone have a CLUE what is going on? What combo of these four ingredients would be the culprit?
I figure since the cream itself isn't smelly I'll continue to use it till its gonne, but would like to avoid the BAD EGG gassy smell that escapes from the jar.
ALSO I purchased some Rosehip Seed oil, ceramides and HA from GOW that I intend to mix in as well. |

I would guess that it is the ALA. I use this in a serum concoction I make and it gives it a rotten egg kind of smell. I add a few drops of Helichrysum EO to it and it tones down the smell a lot.
HTH,
