I think it does something healthy to the hair follicle?? Sorry. I can't seem to remember much of what I've read on it. If I have time, I'll try to search that out.

You might also look into Skin Biology's Folligen Lotion. It really helps to improve the thickness of hair and make it grow. And, Skin Bio always offers up some research to their products to prove it works. Here's a page on the Hair Health and Vitality to peruse. Be forewarned - they're a little long in technical dept. LOL

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the laser. I had the laser treatment done on a mild case of toenail fungus in my two big toenails. I had my first treatment done last July '09 ($700.) In Sept I went back to the Podiatrist to complain that I didn't see any difference. He thought it was too soon to see progress but was nervous about me writing a negative review on his website, so he gave me a (free) follow up treatment. He normally charges $400 for a 2nd follow up. It is now 7 months later and I can still see the fungus (light colored streaks starting at the top of the nail) It is a little better but it is not gone which I expected by now. Rolling Eyes (My nails grow fast.) Personally, I am NOT impressed with this procedure. Keep in mind, you still have to apply an ointment morning and night everyday, until the fungus goes away. It's not like you get the laser, and just sit back and wait for the nail to grow out. I would love to hear of any "success stories" from folks that have had this done!

mountaingirl - thanks for reporting back on the laser. I remember your original post on this Wink I was hoping it was going to be an easy quick fix, but sounds like it's not.

brierrose - re Nizoral (ketoconazole) helping to thicken hair, I have unfortunately had to do a lot of research on fungus related issues the past year. Sorry, didn't "save" the info I came across, but definitely recall reading some promising stuff on ketoconazole/hair thinning. The only link I saved was this one from wiki, where ketoconazole gets a mention under "Treatments". Apparently it's a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, but not yet FDA approved to be marketed for hair loss (although I did see Nizoral in the "hair loss" section at Boots recently)

I've used Nizoral as a shampoo on occasion, but not regularly or long enough to notice any benefit. Keep meaning to switch to it but too many other shampoos to use up first.

my brother had horrible fungus on all but one nail. He used Vicks Vaporub and it worked amazingly! he has new toenails, but yes, it took months and he was dedicated by using it nightly. It works!
